Prince Philip Had A Nasty Nickname For Meghan Markle, New Book Claims
Prince Philip had a special nickname for Meghan Markle that was reportedly nasty, according to a book.
Royal biographer Ingrid Seward is releasing her new book "My Mother And I." In it, she claims the late Duke of Edinburgh had a seemingly spiteful moniker for Prince Harry's wife, the New York Post reported.
Prince Philip, who passed away in 2021 at the age of 99, allegedly called the former actress the "Duchess of Windsor," which had a sting reference to the title held by American socialite Wallis Simpson.
Prince William and Prince Harry's grandfather reportedly thought there were "uncanny" similarities between the two women as Markle reminded him of Simpson, per Seward.
"He wasn't simply referring to the fact that both were pencil-slim, dark-haired and glamorous American divorcées," Seward wrote in her new book.
Much like Markle, Simpson was a divorcee. Simpson was previously married to Earl Winfield Spencer Jr. from 1916 to 1927 and Ernest Simpson from 1928 to 1937 before marrying King Edward VIII, who abdicated the throne for her.
Markle was also previously married to film producer Trevor Engelson from 2011 to 2014. They reportedly tied the knot in Jamaica in September 2011.
Queen Elizabeth was reportedly nicer to Markle and even allegedly "approved" of her after Prince Harry introduced her to the late monarch in 2017. However, Her Majesty allegedly believed that her wedding dress was "too white," considering she was previously married.
According to royal biographer Andrew Morton in his book "Meghan, A Hollywood Princess," Markle and Engelson were living apart by February 2013 after her acting career took off. Morton claimed the film producer was shocked at how Markle ended their marriage.
"A wealthy entrepreneur friend claimed the marriage ended so abruptly that Meghan sent Trevor her diamond wedding and engagement rings back by registered mail," Morton wrote, per The Sun.
"Another confirmed that the decision to end the marriage was made by Meghan and had come 'totally out of the blue.'"
Ninaki Priddy, Markle's maid-of-honor and former BFF, said Engelson would take his work to Canada to be with Markle, who was filming "Suits" there at the time. He was reportedly surprised with how their marriage ended.
"It was such a surprise for Trevor that even at a distance of five years, he can barely contain his anger," she said.
Priddy spoke with the Daily Mail and shared more details about Markle and Engelson. She admitted that following their separation, she ended her friendship with Markle.
"I tried to get details from her, but she wouldn't tell me. What came to light after Trevor and I spoke ended my friendship with Meghan. I think everybody who knew them both was in shock," said Priddy, who had been friends with Markle since they were 2.
"My Mother and I" will hit shelves on Feb. 15, 2024.
