Breaking News: King Charles III Diagnosed With Cancer
King Charles III has been diagnosed with cancer, according to an official statement from Buckingham Palace.
"During The King's recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted," the palace said, according to NBC News, in an emailed statement. "Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer."
The statement did not share what stage the cancer is in.
Reportedly, King Charles III, 75, wanted to share his diagnosis to help avoid speculation on his health and also "in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer."
The announcement comes a week after both Princess Kate and King Charles III were discharged from a private London clinic after medical procedures. Charles reportedly underwent a "corrective procedure" for an enlarged prostate, while 42-year-old Kate underwent abdominal surgery on Jan. 17.
Fox News reports Prince Harry will travel to the U.K. to support him as he undergoes treatment.
"The Duke did speak with his father about his diagnosis," a source told Fox News.
King Charles, who ascended the throne following the death of Queen Elizabeth II on Sept. 8, 2022 at 96-years-old, was diagnosed with the benign condition in January after he reportedly experienced undisclosed symptoms. The king reportedly also canceled scheduled engagements.
