Taylor Swift Generated $332 Million For NFL In 4 Months Following Travis Kelce Romance
Taylor Swift has proven to be a lucrative asset for the NFL and the Kansas City Chiefs in the four months since her relationship with Travis Kelce has gone public.
According to a recent report by Front Office Sports, Swift's impact has translated into an impressive "equivalent brand value" of $331.5 million for both her boyfriend's team and the league, based on data provided by Apex Marketing Group.
The data, which spans from Sept. 24, 2023, to Jan. 22, 2024, includes various platforms such as print, digital, radio, television, highlights, and social media monitoring Swift since her first appearance at a Chiefs game.
Apex assigned a financial amount for the "reach and impact" of each instance.
According to Front Office Sports, Apex president Eric Smallwood said digital content and online news contributed significantly to Swift's financial impact, outpacing even the influence of social media.
By October 2023, Swift had already created a staggering $166 million in brand value for the Chiefs and NFL, Smallwood said.
A significant highlight of Swift's influence is the boost in female viewership for the NFL.
The league experienced its highest regular-season female viewership since 2000, with a 9% increase from the previous season. Male viewership in the same period rose 6%.
The wild-card playoff game between the Chiefs and Dolphins, attended by Swift, set the U.S. live event streaming record. The Chiefs' divisional-round win over Buffalo last week set the broadcast record for the second playoff round, drawing 50.4 million viewers.
In addition to the spike in viewership, Swift's impact extends to merchandise sales.
Following his girlfriend's first appearance at his games, Kelce's gear witnessed a remarkable 400% increase, making him a top-five-selling jersey.
Since first being spotted at Arrowhead Stadium in Missouri on Sept. 24 last year, Swift has now been to 12 of Kelce's Chiefs games.
The team notably won nine of the 12 games she's attended, and they are now headed to the Super Bowl.
Despite facing scrutiny from football fans over screen time, Swift's relationship with Kelce remains strong.
In a recent appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show," Kelce said being in love is a "beautiful thing" and emphasized that their relationship is about mutual support.
"We just have fun with it and we enjoy every single bit of it," the tight end said. "I love it when Taylor comes and supports me and enjoys the game with the fam and friends. It's been nothing but a wonderful year."
Kelce, for his part, showed his support for Swift by attending one of her "Eras Tour" concerts in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in November last year.
Months after wrapping up the "Eras Tour's" South American leg in Brazil, Swift kicked off the Asian leg of her record-breaking tour this week with four back-to-back shows in Tokyo, Japan.
She will perform her last Tokyo Dome show Saturday, but Swift is expected to make it back to the U.S. in time to cheer for Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs at Super Bowl LVIII at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Don't miss the Chiefs facing off against the San Francisco 49ers at Super Bowl LVIII Sunday at 6:30 p.m. EST on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.
