Queen Camilla Breaks Silence After King Charles' Cancer Diagnosis
Queen Camilla spoke up for the first time about her husband King Charles' health after his cancer diagnosis.
While King Charles took a break after he was diagnosed with some form of cancer, his wife continued her royal duties. The Queen Consort even gave an update on the monarch's condition during one of her recent engagements.
Queen Camilla, 76, was beaming when she arrived at a special ceremony at Salisbury Cathedral on Thursday. When she spoke at the event, she delivered a positive update about the monarch.
"He's (Charles) doing extremely well under circumstances," Queen Camilla said, per the BBC.
"He is very touched by all of the letters and messages the public have been sending from everywhere. That's very cheering."
Queen Camilla was also reportedly photographed talking to Ben Abbott, 40, at the event, per the Mirror. Abbott is a critical care paramedic with Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
Camilla's statement came days after Buckingham Palace announced that the British monarch was diagnosed with a form of cancer. It was reportedly a "separate issue of concern" from his enlarged prostate, and it was detected after a recent hospital procedure for his benign prostate enlargement.
"His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties. Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual," the announcement read.
"The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure. He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible."
The Palace added that the King decided to share his condition to "prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer."
Prince William also released a statement about his father's cancer diagnosis and wife Kate Middleton's abdominal surgery in his speech Wednesday when he hosted an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle.
"I'd like to take this opportunity to say thank you, also, for the kind messages of support for Catherine and for my father, especially in recent days. It means a great deal to us all," the Prince of Wales said.
The heir was also spotted talking to reporters who gathered outside the venue.
"We really appreciate everyone's kind messages. Thank you," he told them.
