Netizens Warn Lemonada After Signing Meghan Markle For New Podcast: 'You Will Be Markled'
Meghan Markle is expected to return for a new podcast after cutting ties with Spotify through a new partnership with Lemonada.
The Duchess of Sussex shared her new podcast deal on her and Prince Harry's new website. In the announcement, Markle said she was "proud" to join the "brilliant team at Lemonada." The company also shared the news on its social media account
"Lemonada Media today announced a new creative partnership with Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex. Lemonada will distribute the first season 'Archetypes' for all audio platforms and also develop a new original podcast series hosted by Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex," the caption read along with a link to a Deadline report about the deal.
The announcement quickly received several responses, with many warning Lemonada about working with Markle. Some claimed that Lemonada would be "Markled."
Urban Dictionary defines the word "Markled" as a verb that means ghosting, abandoning, or disposing of someone after they contributed and have no further use in one's life. The term was inspired by the Duchess of Sussex, who allegedly cut ties with her pals when her royal romance with Prince Harry got serious.
"Lemonada, you will be Markled in no time...and I guarantee she will disappoint you," one commented.
Another added, "Next up on 'Who Wants to Get Markled?' @LemanadaMedia come on down! You are the next contestant!!"
"I feel for those working with M at Lemonada Media...how many of her previous coworkers have left their employment with her. She has a reputation for being difficult, a know-it-all, lazy and unprofessional. So good luck Lemonada," a third user wrote.
"Spotify couldn't make this work, despite investing in a home studio, 13 producers, her having the head of content on speed dial, $20m and nearly two years of patience while she did nothing. But, yeah, ok [grimacing face emoji]. Do let us know how this goes," a fourth user said with a thumbs-up emoji.
Although many expressed concern and doubt over the deal, the Sussex supporters were happy and excited about Markle's new venture. Those who loved the Duchess of Sussex's "Archetypes" podcast were looking forward to hearing from her again.
"I love this partnership. 'Archetypes' was my favorite podcast. I'm so glad it's coming back. Congratulations Meghan!! And to us all!" one fan wrote.
Another added, "SO Excited. Loved 'Archetypes,' her voice was so soothing, and the conversations were intriguing and inspiring. The Paris Hilton one was still my favorite."
"This is a great move for Lemonada Media. I'd never heard of them before," another opined before sharing a piece of unsolicited advice, "I'm sure they're smart enough not to expect much from MM. Great publicity for them. Just.. protect your staff. Her history with employees is not good."
"I'm super excited to join LemonadaMedia. Looking forward to listening to 'Archetypes' and all the special guest speakers, and having Duchess Meghan back," a different user stated with growing heart emoji.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex just launched their new website. The pair received intense mockery online, with some accusing them of using their connection with the royals through their website Sussex.com despite previously saying they wanted to be independent. One claimed that the move was an admission of defeat on the Sussexes' part.
"Imagine, saying, you want to live an independent life [and] start a website that is not royal based and failing. Now imagine having to admit defeat [and] going back to using your royal titles and coat of arms because the deals have dried up. I can't stop laughing at them!" the user wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
