‘The Golden Bachelorette’ Spin Off Launches This Fall On ABC
After the smashing success of 'The Golden Bachelor,' ABC has announced a spinoff for women looking for love, officially launching 'The Golden Bachelorette.'
'The Golden Bachelor,' a spinoff of 'The Bachelor' but dedicated to mature singles, became ABC's most watched premiere on Hulu, gathering 43.4 million viewers its debut season. Viewers immediately called for women to participate and the network listened.
President of Disney Television Group, Craig Erwich, confirmed the female-focused series at the Television Critics Association Press Tour panel in Pasadena, California.
Golden Bachelor, Gerry Turner, who wears a hearing aid and his heart on his sleeve, got a second chance at love on national TV.
Turner, 72, proposed to contestant Theresa Nist on the season finale. In the scenic greenery of Costa Rica, Nist, 70, and Turner had a heartfelt verbal exchange before officially becoming engaged.
Their California wedding ceremony aired live on TV in a special on ABC.
Erwich announced the casting for 'The Golden Bachelorette' is already underway, with ABC's casting site accepting applications for "seniors looking for love."
Producer Jason Erlich spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about his excitement for the spinoff, saying he hopes the franchise continues to expand.
"People are really liking the stories that we're telling, and so I'm really interested to see. It will be different; it will be almost like doing it for the first time all over again with 'The Golden Bachelorette,' " he said. "What is it going to be like with 20-some older men living in the Bachelor Mansion? We don't know, but I'm pretty sure it will be different and interesting. And that's what makes me want to watch."
