Mom, Daughter Die Just Minutes After Leaving Drake And J. Cole's Concert After Driver Runs Red Light
A Chicago woman and her daughter were hit by a car and killed early Wednesday after attending the Drake and J. Cole concert in St. Louis, Missouri.
A 22-year-old man allegedly killed the two women and injured several others after striking multiple vehicles and pedestrians with his car near the Enterprise Center, where the concert was held, at around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, 5 On Your Side reported, citing the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
The incident began after the driver of a Jeep Cherokee allegedly ran a series of red lights at a high rate of speed and sideswiped another vehicle traveling north on 18th Street, officers told the outlet.
The Jeep then rotated and struck the mother and daughter walking along the crosswalk.
The vehicle continued to move until it collided with another car.
WGN-TV identified the two women as Laticha Bracero, 42, and her daughter Alyssa Cordova, 21.
Bracero was pronounced dead at the scene.
The daughter was rushed to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
The mother and daughter, who were visiting from Chicago, were walking back to their car after leaving the concert when they were struck by the Jeep, KTVI-TV reported.
Four others, including the driver of the Jeep, were injured in the incident.
The unidentified driver was transported to a hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Two teenagers in one of the cars and the driver of a third car suffered minor injuries.
Police have not released any additional information as of this writing.
Drake and Cole announced their "It's All A Blur Tour - Big as the What?" tour back in November 2023, according to Billboard.
It was originally set to kick off last month in Denver, Colorado, but it was postponed and ultimately began in Tampa Bay, Florida, on Feb. 2.
Drake and Cole's Tuesday concert in St. Louis was the sixth show in their 32-date tour.
Their next stop is the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, this Friday.
Meanwhile, the Wednesday crash comes months after a young Taylor Swift fan was hit and killed by a drunken driver while leaving one of the pop superstar's "The Eras Tour" concerts in Houston, Texas, on April 21, 2023.
Jacob Lewis, 20, and his sister, April Bancroft, were driving northbound on the Southwest Freeway following the show at NRG Stadium when the vehicle became disabled.
When Lewis stepped out of the car to push it from behind, he and the car were both struck by another vehicle traveling on the freeway, the Houston Police Department said in a release.
Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the other vehicle was charged with a felony of driving intoxicated and failure to stop and render aid.
Following the incident, Swifties rallied in support of Lewis and raised nearly $150,000 in donations for a GoFundMe created for him.
