Grammy Award winning drummer Kerry "Fatman" Hunter was reportedly killed on the streets of New Orleans during the Mardi Gras holiday after being struck by an alleged drunk driver.

According to the NOLA.com, Hunter, 53, was killed in the early morning hours at 12:08 a.m.

The musician was reportedly crossing North Claiborne and Elysian Avenue on foot before he was struck. He went through the windshield of alleged drunk driver Jeremy E. Lindsey's Honda Accord.

He was partially hanging out of the passenger's side window, allegedly driving for two miles before he was able to get in contact with paramedics.

According to police reports, Hunter was pronounced dead at the scene.

The hit-and-run assailant was booked at New Orleans Parish Justice Center, where his blood alcohol levels tested way above the legal limit. Lindsey, 21, was released from custody on $60,000 bail.

Hunter, who has been a part of the music scene in the community for years, is known for gaining major success with the New Orleans Nightcrawlers.

The honored community member has performed with The Danny Baker-led Roots of Jazz Brass Band, Preservation Hall Collection, and various brass arrangements. He was celebrated in the New Birth Brass Band with Tanio Hinge prior to joining the New Orleans NightCrawlers.

Preservation Hall shared a heartfelt Instagram post sending condolences and mourning the loss of Fatman.

"While we'll miss seeing you walk through the gates every week, we will always feel the light of your presence in this room you so loved," the caption read.

"Rest well Kerry," the post continued. "We're looking forward to celebrating your life in perpetuity."
