Authorities are diligently searching for answers after an 8-year-old boy was shot in the head while he was engrossed in a video game session in his home.

On Feb.13, the Virginia Beach Police responded to a distressing call of shots fired on the 3200 block of Peele Court. Upon arrival, they found Landyn Davis with a gunshot wound. According to WAVY-TV, Davis was hospitalized and was placed in a medically-induced coma. He opened his eyes on Monday, according to a family friend.

As reported by WVEC-TV, Landyn and his 15-year-old sister were home alone while their parents attended a school event. The sister, overwhelmed with emotion, called their parents in tears, prompting an urgent return home. The family arrived home to find approximately 20 bullets had struck their residence.

According to Landyn's mother, Emily Davis, the bullet that struck her son landed at the back of his head, resulting in a traumatic brain injury. Landyn underwent emergency surgery, however, medical professionals opted not to remove the bullet due to the potential risk of causing further harm.

Steven Davis, Landyn's father, believed that the shooters "were targeting someone in front of my house."

"He was just playing a video game, minding his own business," Steven said. "Next thing you know, he's in a damn war zone."

Police have yet to make any arrests and are seeking public assistance to ensure justice for the family. The VAPD has set up an anonymous digital evidence portal, encouraging the submission of videos or photos that could assist in identifying and apprehending the suspect or suspects.
