Meryl Streep, Martin Short Step Out For Dinner A Month After Denying They Were Dating
Meryl Streep and Martin Short were spotted out and about together this week amid dating rumors.
The "Only Murders in the Buildings" co-stars were spotted leaving dinner with their pals at Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica, California, on Wednesday. Streep, 74, wore black pants, a hot pink button-down and a red jacket. On the other hand, Short, 73, rocked a gray sweater and black blazer. In a snap obtained by People, the two were smiling while leaving the place.
The sighting comes a month after Short shut down the dating rumors. The pair first sparked romance rumors when they were spotted at the Golden Globes in January. However, Short's rep said at the time that they "are just very good friends, nothing more."
Steve Martin, Meryl Streep, Selena Gomez and Martin Short attend the AFI Awards Luncheon at Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills on January 12, 2024 in Los Angeles, California.
Bill Maher also joked about the gossip on his "Club Random" podcast. Short doubled down on his rep's statement and clarified their relationship status.
"We're not a couple, we are just very close friends," Short said.
"Well, you should because there's nothing more powerful in Hollywood than a power couple. It worked for Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, it worked for Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie," Maher, 68, quipped.
Streep and Short are set to reunite for "Only Murders in the Building" Season 4. Streep will reprise her role as Loretta Durkin, Short's Oliver Putnam's love interest, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Streep was previously married to Don Gummer for 45 years. Last October, they announced that they had ended their romantic relationship six years prior.
"Don Gummer and Meryl Streep have been separated for more than 6 years, and while they will always care for each other, they have chosen lives apart," a rep for Streep said in a statement to People.
Meanwhile, Short was married to actress Nancy Dolman from 1980 until her death. She passed away from ovarian cancer in 2010. They shared three children -- Katherine Elizabeth, 40, Oliver Patrick, 37, and Henry Hayter, 34.
He previously opened up about their marriage in AARP: The Magazine. Short admitted that he still talked to his late wife.
"Our marriage was a triumph, so it's tough," he said. "She died in 2010, but I still communicate with her all the time. It's, 'Hey Nan,' you know? How would she react to this decision or that, especially regarding our three kids."
He added, "I believe that when people die, they zoom into the people that love them. The idea that it just ends, and don't speak of them -- that's wrong....to me, she's still here."
"Only Murders in the Building" can be streamed in full on Hulu.
