Meghan Markle asked a friend a favor to let Kelly Clarkson know that she voted for her on "American Idol," but many netizens didn't like her gesture.

Abigail Spencer appeared on Monday's episode of "The Kelly Clarkson Show" with her "Extended Family" co-star Donald Faison. Spencer, who worked with Markle on "Suits," shared the Duchess of Sussex's message for the host.

"Meg says hello and that she loves you and that she voted for you on American Idol," Spencer told Clarkson.

"It worked!" Clarkson jokingly responded, referring to her big win as the first-season winner of the singing competition, which aired in 2002.

Spencer also relayed that the 42-year-old former actress "was just having dinner with Michael Bublé, who said you are the greatest singer on Earth."

Clarkson shot down the compliment, saying Bublé was lying.

"He's lying, but I love him," Clarkson said.

"This was unsolicited. She did not know I was coming on here. We were just chatting, and I was like, 'Oh, I'm going to see Kelly next week,' and she's like, 'I have a message,' "Spencer added.

However, the move raised some eyebrows, especially from Markle's critics. Many mocked her on social media for allegedly being desperate.

"Oh gawd this REEKS of desperation," one commented with laughing emoji.

Another wrote, "The desperation is real!"

"Lol, this is how Meghan is being reported on? She is sending messages through other people to celebrities about a 'vote' that occurred 20 years ago? OMG, she is such a loser," a third person added.

"Reaching through a third party to connect? Classic Snake Snarkle maneuver-always playing the game for attention. Desperate Some things never change Kelly don't get #Markled," a fourth person opined.

Some joked that it was pointless because Clarkson won the competition over 20 years ago already. One claimed Markle probably wanted to be on Clarkson's show or get the host to appear on her upcoming podcast with Lemonada.

Another said they were "dying of secondhand embarrassment" as it was "so cringe."

Meanwhile, many also didn't think it was a bad thing to send a message to Clarkson through a friend. One noted that Markle and Spencer were good friends, and it was great to hear positive news about the "Horrible Bosses" actress.

"Abiligail and Meghan are best friends, and it's refreshing to hear positive things about Meghan instead of all the made-up lies and hate towards her," a Sussex fan wrote.

"Just lovely!" another commented on what Spencer shared about Markle on the show.

"Wow! This is So sweet. Meghan voted for Kelly Clarkson to win American Idol," a third person said.

Meanwhile, Spencer also shared that Markle was her best friend, and they have the same birthday. Both starred in "Suits," but Markle stepped back shortly after she announced her engagement to Prince Harry in November 2017.

Spencer was among Markle's celebrity guests when she celebrated her baby shower in New York City in February 2019, when she was expecting her firstborn, Archie.
