'16 And Pregnant' Star Sean Garinger Dead At 20 After ATV Accident
MTV's '16 and Pregnant' alum, Sean Garinger, died on Feb. 28.
He was 20.
Sean Garinger's mother, Mary Hobbs, told the The U.S. Sun that her son was relocating an ATV at his Boone, North Carolina, home to make space for her car. The ground gave way due to heavy rain and mud, causing the ATV to flip over, resulting Garinger's head being crushed.
"I ran to neighbors trying to get someone to help me get the ATV off of him. No one answered. I ran back to him," she said. "By that time, I realized he wasn't alive anymore. I just laid next to him until the ambulance showed up."
Watauga Democrat reports that the Watauga County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) responded to the scene with the fire department, medics, and police.
"Our hearts are heavy with sorrow for the loss experienced by the family and loved ones of the victim," the WCSO said in a statement.
Garinger, featured in season six of '16 and Pregnant' in 2020 with ex-girlfriend Selena Gutierrez, leaves behind daughters Dareli and Esmi. He is survived by his mother and sisters Shania, Lydia, Isabella, Ember, Kayden, and Casslyn.
Sean's obituary said Garinger "never knew a stranger, regardless of age, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. His kind and generous nature endeared him to all who knew him."
Garinger, who was affectionately called "Squishy," reportedly enjoyed driving RC cars, sky diving, shark diving, dirt bikes, flying his drone, driving ATVs, surfing, and spending time in the ocean.
Hobbs shared a tribute to Garinger on Facebook, revealing how she “can’t find the right words to describe how broken my heart is."
"My son I was so proud of you! You pushed through the toughest challenges in life and never settled for less," Hobbs said. "You were determined to be the best version of yourself. You were 232 days sober. Your smile will always brighten up my world."
