Oscars 2024 Predictions: Who Will Win Best Picture, Actor And Actress According To Top Sources
Critics have already made their predictions for the 96th Academy Awards ceremony.
After the Academy officially announced the Oscar nominations in January, many fans and critics started weighing in on which films or actors could bring home trophies this year.
We have collated the predictions from USA Today, Deadline, The Hollywood Reporter, The Guardian and Vanity Fair, and here's how the nominees fared.
Best Picture
For Best Picture, one of the biggest Oscar awards, ten films are nominated, namely: "American Fiction," "Anatomy Of A Fall," "Barbie," "The Holdovers," "Killers Of The Flower Moon," "Maestro," "Oppenheimer," "Past Lives," "Poor Things" and "The Zone Of Interest."
Garnering five votes, Christopher Nolan's epic biographical thriller film "Oppenheimer" is predicted to take home Best Picture this year.
Per THR's predictions, the movie starring Cillian Murphy got a 78.4% score among the list of nominees, far from its next contender, "Poor Things," with only 4.6%.
"'Oppenheimer' is the one to beat here... It has also swept key precursor awards, making it an overwhelming front-runner," said Pete Hammond of Deadline.
Meanwhile, USA Today described Nolan's film as a "filmmaking feat."
Best Actor In A Leading Role
Nolan's award-winning film is also predicted to take home the Best Actor award with Cillian Murphy's performance. The Irish actor received five votes as well.
Noting the 47-year-old actor's victory in both SAG and BAFTA, his movie "seems poised to overperform at the Oscars," per Vanity Fair.
THR echoed the prediction, saying, "Murphy's BAFTA and SAG wins, along with 'Oppenheimer's' overall awards season momentum, gives us a genuine favorite in this race..."
Meanwhile, critics see Paul Giamatti of "The Holdovers" as his close contender. Other actors nominated in this category are "Maestro's" Bradley Cooper, "Rustin's" Colman Domingo and "American Fiction's" Jeffrey Wright.
Best Actress In A Leading Role
This year, five actresses are vying for this award, including Annette Bening for "Nyad," Lily Gladstone for "Killers Of The Flower Moon," Sandra Hüller for "Anatomy Of A Fall," Carey Mulligan for "Maestro" and Emma Stone for "Poor Things."
The majority of critics predict that 37-year-old Gladstone will take home the trophy. She received three votes.
"After Lily Gladstone's big win at the SAG Awards on Jan. 24, the odds are back in the 'Killers Of The Flower Moon' star's favor," wrote Vanity Fair.
On the other hand, The Guardian said Stone will and should win.
The 96th Academy Awards will happen Sunday at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. The awards ceremony will honor and recognize movies released in 2023.
