Sydney Sweeney Channels Marilyn Monroe While Wearing Angelina Jolie's 2004 Oscars Dress
Sydney Sweeney looked timeless and classic when she walked the red carpet for the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party.
The "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" actress channeled Marilyn Monroe in her sultry look. She also styled her hair in a chic lob reminiscent of the late actress' hairstyle in the 1950s.
Her dress had been worn by Angelina Jolie at the 2004 Oscars. Designed by Marc Bouwer, the white satin gown features a deep V-neck cut and draped skirt, per InStyle.
Sweneey's stylist, Molly Dickson, shared snaps of the actress wearing the outfit on Instagram and revealed how they got it. She also uploaded some shots of the "Maleficent" actress rocking the same outfit.
"Sydney x archival @marcbouwer originally worn by Angelina Jolie to the Academy Awards in 2004. Thank you so much Marc + @paulmargolin for letting us into your archives for this special moment!" she wrote in the caption. "Also paired it with a custom @messika diamond necklace for Vanity Fair Oscars party tonight."
Several netizens reacted to the post, with some rooting for Jolie and others for Sweeney. Many also opted to praise both Hollywood stars.
"Angelina Jolie, she's a legend [red heart emoji] stunning woman," one commented.
Another added, "Angie is [the] original mother."
"Honestly, Sydney wore it a million times better. And the new hair!" a different user rooting for Sweeney wrote.
Another fan added, "Sydney, without out a doubt, wore it a billion times better she basically re-iconic it."
"[I]conic if you ask me!" one fan opined.
Another supporter stated, "[A]bsolutely in love with this look."
"This is a Marilyn Monroe moment," a different user commented with clapping hands emoji.
"Modern Marilyn," another said.
Sweeney recently chatted with People about her partnership with the antioxidant-infused beverage brand Bai. During the interview, she shared the current fashion mantra she's practicing.
"I honestly just vibe with whatever event's going on," Sweeney shared. "It's always a little bit different."
She continued, "That's the fun thing about all of this, it's like playing dress-up. It's boring to do the same thing over and over again."
When asked if she's attending the 2024 Met Gala, the "Euphoria" actress played coy and didn't give a definite answer.
"Maybe, maybe not," she teased. "I might be working. We're trying to figure it out, so we'll see."
