Kate Middleton May Have 'Died 18 Months Ago,' John Oliver Jokes Amid Photo Controversy
Kate Middleton may have died over a year ago, according to a British comedian.
John Oliver appeared on Tuesday's "Watch What Happens Live." Host Andy Cohen asked him, "What the f**k is going on" with the Princess of Wales? Cohen blurted out the question since Middleton has been out of the public eye following her abdominal surgery in January.
Oliver, 46, said he initially stayed away from all rumors about Middleton's absence until her "manipulated" Mother's Day photo went viral online.
"I thought, 'Let's all just ignore this, we've moved on' -- until the Photoshop thing," Oliver replied, per Page Six. "It feels like you're almost handling badly in an impressive way at this point."
Cohen, 55, said he was skeptical about the apology Middleton issued over the picture in question because of the royal family's mantra. The host wondered why the Palace had to respond to various speculations about the "manipulated" family photo.
"Isn't their motto: never complain, never explain? And they had 'her' explaining on Twitter?" the Bravo producer said.
"There's a non-zero chance she died 18 months ago. They might be 'Weekend at Bernie's'-ing this situation," Oliver responded. "I'm not saying it happened! I'm saying it's nonzero until proven otherwise. Until you see her with a copy of today's newspaper."
The 1989 American comedy film Cohen mentioned centered on two pals, Larry Wilson and Richard Parker, who got invited to Bernie Lomax's home, only to find his lifeless body while other guests were too busy partying to notice that he was already dead. The pair manipulated Bernie's limbs to move as if he were alive while the man who killed him grew unhinged for repeatedly failing to assassinate him.
Meanwhile, the Duchess of Cambridge previously issued an apology over the "confusion" of her Mother's Day photo. The royal, who considered herself an amateur photographer, explained that she would "occasionally experiment with editing."
After Middleton's explanation, several wondered where the royal mother of three was. Many took to social media and oddly asked if she was still alive.
"I'm so deep down in the 'Where is Kate Middleton' rabbit hole. I'm beginning to wonder if she's even alive at this point. I had paid it no mind until they released the fake photo today. Now, 9 hours later.... what happened to Kate??" one person asked.
"It's worse than that. Kate Middleton hasn't been seen since Dec 25. This is the first official photo of her -- to kill it so publicly suggests a deeply unethical quandary with publishing it. Is she even alive? People need to stop being polite and get real," another opined.
On Monday, the Prince and Princess of Wales were spotted in the same vehicle. But the two royals headed to different engagements.
Prince William joined Queen Camilla, Princess Anne, Prince Edward and Sophie, the Countess of Wessex for the annual Commonwealth Day Service of Celebration at Westminster Abbey in London. Meanwhile, Middleton reportedly went to a "private appointment."
