Wendy Williams Hit With $500K Federal Tax Lien Amid Health Battle
Wendy Williams is facing another problem amid her guardianship and health battles.
The TV host was hit with a lien over her unpaid taxes for 2019 and 2021, amounting to $568,451.57. In the document obtained by TMZ, the tax lien is after her pricey condo in New York City.
Based on the court documents, the lien was generated in January of this year and was recorded with the New York City Department of Finance in February. The outlet noted that there were no signs Williams had already dealt with the lien. However, it was also possible that she had already cleared it.
The outlet reached out to Williams' appointed guardian but did not get a response.
Sabrina Morrissey was appointed Williams' guardian over her finances in Spring 2022. Her appointment came after the celebrity's alleged tax violations.
The court-appointed guardian is reportedly the only person with unfettered access to Williams. The 59-year-old TV personality, who struggled with alcoholism and recently announced her frontotemporal dementia and aphasia diagnosis, has been in an unknown facility to address cognitive issues in the past 10 months. Her family is fighting to free her from the guardianship that froze her account.
"How did she go from this aunt or sister that we love and is healthy one minute to this person who's in and out of the hospital?" Williams' sister Wanda Finnie told People in February. "How is that system better than the system the family could put in place? I don't know. I do know that this system is broken. I hope that at some point, Wendy becomes strong enough where she can speak on her own behalf."
Williams also discussed her finances, career and health in her documentary "Where is Wendy Williams?" released last month. According to her, she has no money.
"I think that the guardianship system is broken. We are her family, and you tell me that I'm not capable of taking care of my sister. What would you do? What should I do?" Wanda said in the documentary.
As for her recent diagnosis, Williams' son Kevin Hunter Jr., 23, said that her dementia was "alcohol-induced."
"[Doctors] basically said that because she was drinking so much, it was starting to affect her headspace and her brain. So, I think they said it was alcohol-induced dementia," Hunter said.
Williams has been honest about her trouble with alcohol through the years. An insider previously told People that Williams would show up drunk on her show. There were allegedly times she "would be drunk on air."
