Video Of Dan Schneider With Underage Amanda Bynes In Jacuzzi Leaks Amid Child Abuse Allegations
A video of Dan Schneider with underage Amanda Bynes went viral amid a new documentary against the American TV producer and screenwriter.
Bynes didn't join the other celebrities who made abuse allegations against Schneider in the four-part docuseries "Quiet on the Set" that probed the toxic environment on the set of the programs that Schneider ran.
He created the shows "The Amanda Show," "Drake & Josh," "Zoey 101," "iCarly," "Victorious" and "Sam & Cat." However, the producer was accused of sexism, racism and inappropriate behavior involving underage stars and crew members.
However, a video of Schneider in a hot tub with Bynes resurfaced. In the clip, the actress wore a bikini while he's fully clothed, sitting just inches away from the former child star. Bynes was reportedly 16 years old at the time, the Daily Mail reported.
The clip was part of Bynes' sketch "Amanda's Jacuzzi," where she had surprise guests and interviewed them in the hot tub.
"Hi, welcome to my jacuzzi. Today, my special guest is executive producer of 'The Amanda Show,' Dan Schneider," Bynes said in the clip.
"Hi," he responded with a smile.
They talked about his role in the series, telling her, "Actually, I wrote this whole conversation that we are having." They continued their conversation before they ate spaghetti while still in the jacuzzi.
Several found the clip "disturbing" and "very uncomfortable." However, one argued that it wasn't offensive.
"Dude is fully clothed... he's even got two shirts on, and there are people all around them. How...is this disturbing?" the netizen commented.
"When you watch the video it is Amanda Bynes, clearly very young, wearing a swimsuit in a hot tub and next to her is Dan Schneider fully clothed," said culture writer Scaachi Koul in the documentary, per the Daily Mail."And he is kind of saying, 'I created this situation. I am the reason we are in this hot tub. I am pulling the strings.' Maybe at the time, people viewed it as a comedy, but I think now some people are very uncomfortable with the implication."
Schneider and Bynes were reportedly very close, as she was his "new favorite" cast member when she joined the network. Leon Frierson, who starred in "All That" when he was a teen, remembered that there were a lot of times when Amanda would be missing, and she was reportedly with Scheider pitching and writing ideas.
"We were seeing them grow closer to each other on set," he said in the documentary.
He added that Bynes' dad was "very hands-on with her career," and his presence was felt due to his connection with Schneider.
"They carefully crafted Amanda's career. It was enviable for a lot of cast members," he said.
Koul also agreed that Schneider had a major contribution to Bynes' career.
"Dan Schneider was very responsible for Amanda Bynes' career at the point, and they were very tied to each other. I think she trusted him," she said.
Schneider denied the allegations against him in the documentary, per Vulture.
"Though we cannot corroborate or negate allegations of behaviors from productions decades ago, Nickelodeon, as a matter of policy, investigates all formal complaints as part of our commitment to fostering a safe and professional workplace environment free of harassment or other kinds of inappropriate conduct," Nickelodeon said in a statement to Vulture ahead of the docuseries' premiere.
"Our highest priorities are the well-being and best interests not just of our employees, casts and crew, but of all children, and we have adopted numerous safeguards over the years to help ensure we are living up to our own high standards and the expectations of our audience."
"Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV" was released on Investigation Discovery. It is available to stream on Max.
