‘Beetlejuice 2’ Is On The Way… And Michael Keaton Is Back
Tim Burton's cult classic is back with a new sequel, 'Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,' a follow-up from the original ghostly comedy which debuted in 1988.
Michael Keaton will reprise his role as the title character. Winona Ryder and Catherine O'Hara are also set to reprise their characters Lydia and Delia Deetz. Jenna Ortega is in gear to play Lydia's daughter Astrid, and 'Six Feet Under' star Jason Theroux will play Rory.
'Beetlejuice Beetlejuice' will explain what happens decades later following a "death in the family" — a tip dropped by Burton, 65, in a interview with Entertainment Weekly.
"That's all I will say," the director and film producer teased. "We'll see."
The 'Nightmare Before Christmas' filmmaker recalled the experience of getting Keaton, 72, back into the classic Beetlejuice costume.
"It was kind of scary for somebody who was maybe not that overly interested in doing it," Burton began. "It was such a beautiful thing for me to see all the cast, but he, sort of like demon possession, just went right back into it."
The 80's fantasy film went on to become a commercial success, grossing $73.7 million at the box office following a budget of just $15 million.

The film tells the story of a deceased couple who struggle to haunt their own home for the purpose of scaring off new residents.
The creators of the film agreed the script was probably meant to rot, admitting there wasn't any real story, describing it as more of a "stream of consciousness."
Burton stated that production designer Bo Welch "wanted it to be specific enough to invoke fear that the afterlife might not be much different than real life."
The Independent described the film as a "shining example" of a "sleeper-hit success."
'Beetlejuice Beetlejuice' is set to hit theaters on September 6.
