Michael Jackson’s Mom Has Received $55 Million From MJ’s Estate Since His Death: Report
Michael Jackson's estate claims it has given the late King of Pop's mother tens of millions of dollars in allowances and other benefits since his passing in 2009.
According to newly filed legal documents seen by TMZ, Katherine Jackson, 93, has received more than $55 million in the form of cash and other benefits from her late son's estate over the past 15 years.
Michael's estate executors claimed in their filing that Katherine's alleged monthly allowance of over $160,000 comprised a large chunk of this figure.
Katherine's allowance over the past decade and a half allegedly totaled $33 million, the estate claimed.
Michael's estate went on to allege that it paid over $15 million for the purchase and renovations of Katherine's luxury home and covered her transportation, private gardener, chef, and security expenses.
The documents were filed by Michael's estate as part of its ongoing dispute with Katherine, who is seeking to have the estate pay for her attorney's fees in their ongoing legal battle.
Michael's estate executors, however, insisted that Katherine could afford to pay for her own attorney's fees.
According to legal documents obtained by the Daily Mail earlier this month, the co-executors of Michael's estate -- the singer's longtime lawyer John Branca and executive John McClain -- said Katherine is seeking $561,548 in legal fees.
Katherine has not yet responded to the estate executors' latest filing.
Katherine is currently appealing the decision of a court to rule in favor of Michael's estate executors in a dispute over an undisclosed business deal they struck.
While the details of this deal are currently unclear, TMZ reported that it may be related to Sony Music Group acquiring half of Michael's publishing and recorded masters from his estate for a reported $600 million earlier this year.
In 2022, Branca and McClain sought court approval to sell Michael's music catalog.
Katherine opposed the plan, telling the court that her son allegedly never wanted his catalog to be sold, according to Radar.
Katherine and Michael's son, Blanket, 22, initially joined forces against Michael's estate executors, Us Weekly reported.
But Blanket, who was born Prince Michael Jackson II but now goes by Bigi, chose not to appeal the court's decision over the business deal.
Blanket sided with his late father's estate when it came to who would pay for Katherine's legal fees.
In legal documents filed Wednesday and cited by Us Weekly, Blanket asked the court to block Katherine from using his late father's estate money to cover her attorney's fees.
Blanket wrote in the documents that he does not believe his grandmother will win the case.
He asked the court to grant Katherine "reasonable attorney's fees incurred from the pre-appeal battle," according to the docs.
