Prince Harry, Meghan Markle Break Silence On Kate Middleton Cancer Diagnosis
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are speaking out after Kate Middleton announced that she has been diagnosed with cancer.
In a statement obtained by NBC News Friday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex sent love and well-wishes to the Princess of Wales as she undergoes cancer treatment.
"We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace," Prince Harry and Markle said.
Middleton revealed her cancer diagnosis in a video released via the Prince and Princess of Wales' social media accounts Friday.
She opened up about the "tough couple of months" for their family, sharing that while her condition was initially believed to be noncancerous when she underwent major abdominal surgery in January, further testing found that cancer had been present.
Middleton also said that she was now in the "early stages" of preventative chemotherapy.
Following her announcement, Buckingham Palace said in a statement that King Charles III, who announced his own cancer diagnosis in February, is "so proud" of Middleton for her "courage in speaking as she did."
According to the statement obtained by NBC News, the King "remained in the closest contact with his beloved daughter-in-law throughout the past weeks."
King Charles was also hospitalized in January as he underwent a procedure to correct his enlarged prostate. He was diagnosed with cancer following the procedure.
The palace added that the monarch and his wife, Queen Camilla, "will continue to offer their love and support to the whole family through this difficult time."
Messages of support for Middleton also poured in from all over the world following her announcement.
First lady Jill Biden wrote on X, formerly Twitter: "You are brave, and we love you."
French President Emmanuel Macron wished Middleton a "full recovery" in a post on X.
"In this difficult period you are going through, Brigitte and I wish you a full recovery," Macron wrote. "Your strength and resilience inspire us all."
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also sent the Princess of Wales and the British royal family his support via social media, writing on X: "My thoughts are with the Princess of Wales, her children, and the entire Royal Family following the news of her cancer so courageously shared."
"On behalf of Canadians, I'm sending my support as she undergoes treatment. We're all wishing her a swift recovery," he added.
Princess Kate's brother James Middleton expressed his support for his sister in a sweet tribute he posted on Instagram.
"Over the years, we have climbed many mountains together. As a family, we will climb this one with you too," James wrote alongside a throwback photo of him and Princess Kate.
