Shipping CEO and billionaire Angela Chao, died on Saturday, February 10 in Texas after a gut wrenching mistake where she backed her Tesla into a pond. She was 50 years old.

Chao's story resurfaces as social media connects this tragedy to the harrowing incident where a container ship called Dali, flying under a Singapore flag, crashed into Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge on Tuesday.

Claims that Chao was the owner of the cargo ship are false.

Dali is owned by Grace Ocean Private Ltd. and managed by Synergy Marine Group, both of which are based in Singapore, per the Associated Press.

Chao was the chair and CEO of bulk shipping giant Foremost, based in New York City, in addition to being president of her father's charity, the Foremost Foundation. She's also sister-in-law to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

The 50-year-old was enjoying dinner with a few of her Hardvard Business School friends after inviting them to a 900-acre private property ranch in Texas' Hill Country. The lofty residence includes horse stables, a swimming pool, and a 10-room guesthouse, per the New York Post.

After celebrating Chinese New Year that Friday night, Chao left the guest house to return to the main house where her son was sleeping at approximately 11:30 p.m.

Minutes after taking off in her Tesla Model X SUV, Chao had phoned her friends in a panic following a tragic incident where she backed her car over an embankment into a nearby pond while trying to make a three-point turn, and she was trapped inside.

Per BBC, the police report describes that her friends were "screaming frantically" at deputies from the side of the pond. Officers were able to smash the window of the submerged car, pulling Chao out her then completely submerged vehicle.

She was pronounced dead at 1:40am on February 11, per the news outlet. EMS attempted to resuscitate her for 43 minutes without success.

Her toxicology report indicated that she had a blood alcohol level of more than double the legal limit, per the state of Texas.

Chao's older sister Elaine Chao is married to Mitch McConnell and previously served as transportation secretary under Donald Trump, 77, and labor secretary under George W. Bush, 77.
