Caitlyn Jenner, Trump Slam Biden For Trans Day Of Visibility On Easter Sunday: 'Blasphemous'
Some Christians, politicians and even members of the LGBTQIA+ community did not appreciate President Joe Biden's decision to make an official proclamation for March 31, 2024, which also falls on Easter Sunday, to be celebrated as Transgender Day of Visibility.
On Friday, Biden made several presidential proclamations and among it is the Trans Day of Visibility. While the event has been celebrated on March 31 since 2009, Biden's official proclamation called for March 31, 2024 specifically to be celebrated as transgender day.
The move was met with fury by many who questioned the administration's decision to coincide the proclamation with one of the most important and solemn Christian holidays.
Caitlyn Jenner, who is a transwoman, slammed the president for declaring the "most holy of holy days" as trans day.
"I am absolutely disgusted that Joe Biden has declared the most holy of holy days -- a self-proclaimed devout Catholic -- as Transgender Day of Visibility. The only thing you should be declaring on this day is 'HE is Risen,'" Jenner wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Former President Donald Trump also called for an immediate apology from his main presidential opponent, calling the move another example of Biden's "years-long assault on the Christian faith."
"It is appalling and insulting that Joe Biden's White House prohibited children from submitting religious egg designs for their Easter Art Event, and formally proclaimed Easter Sunday as 'Trans Day of Visibility,'" said Karoline Leavitt, Trump's National Press Secretary, in a statement.
"We call on Joe Biden's failing campaign and White House to issue an apology to the millions of Catholics and Christians across America who believe tomorrow is for one celebration only - the resurrection of Jesus Christ."
In his proclamation, Biden called upon Americans to lift up "the lives and voices of transgender people throughout our nation."
"Today, we send a message to all transgender Americans: You are loved. You are heard. You are understood. You belong. You are America, and my entire Administration and I have your back," the statement read.
As for the Christian community, during Easter, the church celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ after being crucified to conquer death and redeem the human race from sin.
The discussion has also lit up social media, with some pointing out that Trans Day of Visibility has been celebrated on the last day of March since Barack Obama was president.
Some, however, still feel it was a coordinated effort to diminish the Christian holiday.
