Jerrod Carmichael Admits Falling In Love With 'Best Friend' Tyler The Creator; Gets Funniest Response
Jerrod Carmichael revealed in his new reality series what it was like admitting to his best friend that he liked him.
In the premiere episode of "Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show" last week, the "Poor Things" star talked about his unrequited love with his "best friend" Tyler, the Creator and shared that he developed a crush on him, which eventually led to a text confession, according to Entertainment Weekly.
"I fell in love with my best friend. 1 out of 10, don't recommend... I knew I had to tell him. Things started getting kind of weird between us. I had these feelings... So I texted him," he revealed.

"I remember saying, 'I know you didn't ask for this, but somewhere down the line, I developed feelings for you, and I don't know what to do with that.' Then I immediately turned my phone off and went into therapy."
Recalling Tyler's response, he said that the rapper-producer sent him a voice note, saying, "Hahahaha, you stupid b***h."
"And I don't really know what that means," Carmichael quipped.
To make things less awkward between them after the confession, Jerrod recalled in the episode that he asked Tyler to be his Emmy date in 2022, where he received a nomination -- and, eventually, his first Emmy -- for "Rothaniel." However, the "See You Again" artist got back to him days before the event only to decline the invitation.
"Dammmm, I shoot all day. Thanks, tho, that is lit," the text he received reportedly read.
Carmichael ended up attending the awards ceremony with an anonymous date whose face was concealed with a ski mask and goggles. However, some speculated that it was Bo Burnham.
Meanwhile, the best friends later had a conversation about their situation on camera to discuss the distance and awkwardness between them.
"It's because I told you I had feelings for you, and we didn't talk about it," the Emmy awardee told his Grammy-awarded best friend.
"That was, like, weird. I don't know if it was just too awkward to talk about or just to... I don't know. I feel like you left me hanging out there a little bit."
Jerrod then reminded Tyler how he responded to his confession, which the latter acknowledged before laughing.
"I did. Yeah. I did. And I think I just, like, brushed it off. Getting news like that and then avoiding it is a way to avoid change... I still don't know how to respond," the rapper admitted.
He then said that to him, Jerrod was "like a brother, like family."
HBO's original series "Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show" premiered last Friday on Max.
It airs new episodes every week on Fridays.
