Tori Spelling Asks Estranged Husband Dean McDermott For Divorce During Live Podcast
Tori Spelling is documenting her shocking divorce in a very public way in real time, requesting a divorce from her husband live on air during her podcast, MisSpelling.
Spelling, 50, contacted her husband of 18 years, Dean McDermott, by phone call letting him know she'd filed for divorce.
"I don't know what feels more like a punch in the stomach. That it's out there and it's final, or that I have to call him right now. S**t, he's at work. He's at work, you guys, this sucks," Spelling said, per Entertainment Weekly.
The former 'Beverly Hills 90210' actress told listeners she didn't bother to give McDermott, 57, a heads-up beforehand, stating her lawyer revealed the divorce was public information and that she'd be able to "fill in" her ex later.
"So I just called Dean, he's working, and I'm super nervous because I don't like confrontation," she said.
After leaving a message stating the filing was complete, her estranged husband returned her call shortly after. Although his side of the call wasn't exposed, she detailed the nature of his response.
"He was like, 'Great, good, great. I have a lawyer, I was gonna do this, but cool, saves me $500,' " Spelling explained.
In the second episode of her MisSpelling podcast, the mom of five spilled the tea on an explosive fight stemming back to June 2023 that would ultimately lead to the demise of their marriage.
Spelling recalled McDermott allegedly spewing a comment at her that he "knew would be really hurtful" for her to hear. Although the exact statement wasn't revealed, she told listeners she smashed her food to the floor — a loaded baked potato she was preparing — in a rage.
"This guttural scream came out of me," she said. "It was beast-like. It wasn't pretty at all," she remembered, according to Yahoo! News. Per the media outlet, McDermott had threatened divorce a number of times. However, in that instance, he took to Instagram stating the two would be parting ways for good.
"It's with great sadness and a very very heavy heart that after 18 years together and 5 amazing children, that @torispelling and I have decided to go our separate ways, and start a new journey of our own," he said.
Spelling admitted to EW that her marriage took a turn after having children, saying she spent all her time "on the kids and kind of left him in a way."
"I felt like I was just in this alone with the kids, and he was there and he was an extra set of hands, and he put the carseat in because I didn't know how to do it, and things like that. But emotionally, I was it, like, 'Tag, you're it,' " Spelling described in a clarifying moment.
The bestselling author also mentioned how her husband's lack of sobriety affected their marriage, and she's happy he's gotten sober.
