Kamala Harris' Stepdaughter Sets Up Her Art Exhibit Inside A Weed Store In New York
Vice President Kamala Harris' stepdaughter, Ella Emhoff, is displaying her new art pieces at a cannabis store in New York City.
The 24-year-old artist and model -- whose father is second gentleman Doug Emhoff -- debuted a collection of knit portraits at The Mezz, a gallery space inside the Lower East Side cannabis store Gotham, last week.
It marked the first art exhibit for Emhoff, who majored in fine arts with a focus on apparel and textiles at the Parsons School of Design.
"I've never shown work like this before," Emhoff told Time Out of her textile gallery.
Among Emhoff's 14 pieces were knitted depictions of flowers, a puppy, a bag of cookies and other everyday objects.
A textile piece depicting two heart-shaped Gucci hairclips had a $4,500 price tag, the New York Post reported.
The exhibit also featured a few self-portraits, including a close-up of Emhoff's red nose and freckly forehead that is reportedly being sold for $5,500.

Explaining the inspiration behind her art, Emhoff told the Post that she chose items, people and pets that "just kind of [make] you smile" as the subjects for her pieces.
"Because these are all just objects [in the art] that I like, and I like looking at, but they obviously evoke some kind of happy emotion from people, because it's a recognizable object in yarn," she explained.
Emhoff added, "I'm testing the waters, because obviously, I know it takes a lot of effort and time and just like putting yourself out there. But you know, it's been fun so far."
Emhoff also revealed that this art form was born out of her love for creating and designing knitwear.
"I found that no one really wanted to wear all of this stuff because it's kind of crazy and loud, but they liked looking at it. So then I just started experimenting. And now I'm here," she told the Post.
According to the outlet, the artist shared that it was her mother, Kerstin Emhoff, the CEO of the commercial production company Prettybird, who introduced her to knitting at just 6 years old.
Emhoff has posted and sold her own knitwear designs via Instagram and other online platforms over the years.
In February 2021, Emhoff placed five knit pieces -- including a striped dress and a Tweety Bird bag -- on the online retailer Mall, and they quickly sold out, the New York Times reported.
Some of Emhoff's knitted clothing were also for sale at her exhibit. These included $350 drawstring pants, a $150 knitted high-neck tank top and $750 knitted biker shorts.
Emhoff told Time Out that the exhibit is the start of a new phase in her life as an artist.
"I'm calming down and returning more to the creative and quieter aspects," she said. "Which is nice because I got [everything else] out of my system."
Emhoff's knit pieces will be displayed at Gotham until the end of April.
Gotham is a curated art space and concept store, and is one of the few licensed cannabis dispensaries in Manhattan.
