'Game Of Thrones' Jon Snow Spinoff Canceled For Now: 'Couldn't Find The Right Story'
Kit Harington said in a recent interview that his "Game of Thrones" Jon Snow spinoff is "off the table" for now.
In a recent interview with Screen Rant to promote his movie "Blood for Dust," showing on April 19, the 37-year-old actor announced that the supposed "GOT" spinoff centered on his small-screen character is no longer in active development at HBO.
"Currently, it's not. Currently, it's off the table because we all could not find the right story to tell that we were all excited about enough," he revealed.
"So, we decided to lay down tools with it for the time being. There may be a time in the future [when] we return to it, but at the moment, no. It's firmly on the shelf."
Harington also clarified that he hadn't "really ever spoken about it because it was in development" before.
"I didn't want it leaked out that it was being developed, and I didn't want the thing to happen where people kind of start theorizing, getting either excited about it or hate the idea of it, when it may never happen. Because in development, you look at every angle, and you see whether it's worth it," he explained.
The spinoff series was confirmed to be in early development at HBO in June 2022. The "Eternals" star was supposed to reprise his role in the after-events of "Game of Thrones."
In the "Game of Thrones" finale, Jon Snow finally realized his true identity but was exiled from Westeros to begin a new life.
Previously, it was assumed that the spinoff series would pick up with the adventures of Snow with the Wildings
In other news, the second season of "House of the Dragon," the prequel to "Game of Thrones," was announced to be released on HBO/Max in June.
However, HBO has yet to disclose its specific release date.
Meanwhile, George R.R. Martin teased the show's first two episodes in a blog post last December, writing, "I have to say, I thought both episodes were just great. Dark, mind you. Very dark. They may make you cry."
