Lady Gaga announced today that her new single Applause will be released on Monday.

Versions of the new single leaked over the weekend, and in response, the pop icon moved up the release date of Applause from Aug. 19 to Aug 12. Gaga announced her decision on Twitter.

"POP MUSIC EMERGENCY #0DAYSTillAPPLAUSE MY NEW SINGLE COMES OUT TODAY. 911 SPREAD THIS MESSAGE," she tweeted on Monday.

"DUE TO HACKERS AN ABUNDANCE OF LOW/HIGH QUALITY LEAKS...WE ISSUE THIS POP MUSIC EMERGENCY...MONSTERS SPREAD THE WORD," she also tweeted.

The singer expressed much dismay when versions of the first single from her upcoming album ARTPOP hit the web on Saturday. The usually affable entertainer had some harsh words for those who leaked the song. She even attempted to recruit the services of fellow pop star Kay Perry in her cause, because Perry's new single Roar was also leaked over the weekend.

"Wanna grab some shovels and f**k up some hackers? @katyperry excited to hear your ROAR, sorry to hear about your truck!," Gaga tweeted on Saturday.

Gaga revealed the artwork for the single via her Twitter account on July 28, and she announced that the photo was taken by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, who also shot the music video for Applause.

The pop icon chose the cover image because she thought it showed a different side of her performance; a vulnerable part that her fans don't often see.

"It's the end of the night after the show," she said. "When I look at it I see that there is a longing for the applause. I see that there is a void that is leaking onstage, that the performer is leaking, that the art is sort of becoming something else in front of your eyes. Something more human, something more honest."
