Donald Trump Could Miss Barron Trump's Graduation Due To New York Hush Money Trial
Donald Trump may not be able to attend his youngest son Barron Trump's graduation next month because of the Stormy Daniels hush money trial, which kicked off Monday.
Trump and his wife Melania's only child Barron, 18, is set to graduate from Oxbridge Academy in Florida on May 17.
With the New York trial expected to last up to eight weeks, Trump's lawyers asked presiding Judge Juan Merchan to miss the trial that day so the former president could attend Barron's ceremony.
However, Merchan said he could not rule on the request at this time, noting that it would depend on whether the trial was "running on schedule," according to Inner City Press.
After Monday's proceedings, Trump complained to reporters about potentially missing Barron's graduation and not being allowed to attend campaign events as well as Supreme Court arguments in a separate case next week.
"I just want to thank [the judge] very much that I can't go to my son's graduation or that I can't go to the United States Supreme Court. That I'm not in Georgia, or Florida, or North Carolina campaigning like I should be," Trump said sarcastically outside the Manhattan courtroom, as seen in an ABC News clip shared on X, formerly Twitter. "It's perfect for the radical left Democrats. It's exactly what they want."
The GOP 2024 presidential candidate also took to Truth Social to express his anger over the possibility that he won't be able to attend his teenage son's graduation.
"Who will explain for me, to my wonderful son, Barron, who is a GREAT Student at a fantastic School, that his Dad will likely not be allowed to attend his Graduation Ceremony, something that we have been talking about for years...," Trump wrote.
While a decision has not yet been made on the matter, his second oldest son, Eric Trump, also slammed the judge as "heartless" in a post on X.
"Judge Merchan is truly heartless in not letting a father attend his son's graduation," Eric wrote.
The former president faces 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in connection with alleged hush money payments to Daniels before the 2016 election.
The porn star was paid $130,000 in exchange for her silence on an alleged sexual encounter with Trump she claimed happened just four months after Melania gave birth to Barron.
Trump has pleaded not guilty in the case.
Despite being a former president's son, Barron has largely stayed away from the spotlight.
He was last seen in public on March 31 when he attended Easter brunch with his parents at Trump's private club Mar-a-Lago.
