Angelina Jolie Didn't Bathe For 3 Days For This Dangerous Photo Shoot
Angelina Jolie sacrificed bathing to achieve a striking portrait for World Bee Day.
On April 1, a post by Facebook user Manniskor went viral on social media, showing Jolie's portrait with dozens of live bees on her face and body.
It also came with a caption claiming that the multi-awarded Hollywood star "did not bathe for seven days" for the photo shoot.
While the statement that she stopped bathing for some time before her photo shoot was true, the number of days Jolie sacrificed bathing was not seven days.
In her interview with National Geographic for World Bee Day in 2021, the "Maleficent" star shared that she could not shower, but only for three days.
"We could not shower for three days before. Because they told me, 'If you have all these different scents, shampoos and perfumes and things, the bee does not know what you are.' [They] don't want [bees] to confuse you for a flower, I suppose," she said at the time.
The "Salt" actress had a dangerous photo shoot with National Geographic at the time to draw attention on World Bee Day "to the urgent need to protect bees" and to the UNESCO-Guerlain program that trains women to become beekeeper-entrepreneurs and bee protectors.
"When a woman learns a skill, she teaches other women and other men and her children. And so if you really want something done and you want it magnified, you find a woman, and you help her understand what the problem is, and she will work very hard to make sure everyone in the community knows," she said at the time.
Aside from going on three days without a shower, she said she was covered in pheromone, a bee attractant, during her photo shoot.
"It was funny to be in hair and makeup and wiping yourself with pheromone," she shared.
Jolie's portrait was taken by Dan Winters with inspiration from Richard Avedon's 1981 portrait of beekeeper Ronald Fischer covered in bees.
Interestingly, Winters had to track down the same pheromone Avedon used in his famous portrait 40 years ago for Jolie's shoot.
