Ghislaine Maxwell Begs Court To Overturn Conviction And Sentence, Says She Was Denied A Fair Trial
Former high-society socialite turned convicted sex offender Ghislaine Maxwell continues to fight for a glimmer of freedom, recently presenting a plea to federal appeals court.
In March, Maxwell asked the courts to overturn her conviction and 20-year prison sentence for recruiting and grooming underage girls, who Jeffrey Epstein sexually abused.
The 62-year-old argued that she was immunized by an agreement federal prosecutors in Florida had previously arranged with her then ex-boyfriend in 2007, per ABC News.

Defense attorney Diana Fabi addressed a three-judge panel of the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, claiming, "The plea agreement applies to preclude this prosecution."
"Denying the viability of this plea agreement strikes a dagger in the heart of the trust between the government and its citizens regarding plea agreements," she claimed.
Per the news outlet, the prosecutor repeated that the U.S. Attorney's office in Manhattan was not bound by the agreement made with Epstein — who died behind bars in 2019 — claiming that regardless, it did not apply to Maxwell.

Maxwell's attorneys argued that she was made a "proxy" for her ex-boyfriend Epstein to "satisfy public outrage." They also argued that she was denied a fair trial, in part due to one of the juror's failure to disclose his own history of sexual abuse.
The attorney of Annie Farmer, who testified against Maxwell in 2021, Sigrid McCawley, reportedly showed zero interest in Maxwell's attempts, maintaining that her request for a new trial should be denied.
"Nothing in Maxwell's appellate argument today changes the fact that she does not get a free pass and her conviction should be upheld. Survivors deserve nothing less," McCawley stated per ABC.
