Stacey Dash Accused Of Trying To Be White Passing After Fans Noticed Lighter Complexion
"Clueless" star Stacey Dash has been accused of bleaching her skin and trying to be white passing, with fans claiming her complexion looked lighter in her latest videos.
Last week, Dash, 57, posted on her Instagram two videos she took before and after her workout that day.
In the first video, the actress -- who is of Mexican and Afro-Bajan descent, according to her IMDb profile -- revealed that she was going to her first workout in six months despite lacking motivation.
Dash wore a gray hoodie and sported makeup as she showed fans around the underground gym.
"Me overcoming my complete lack of motivation to [work out]. Join this journey with me," she wrote over the clip.
Dash later followed this up with a second video, in which her face looked shinier and more sweaty and her hair disheveled.
"I did it," she said to the camera, giggling and throwing up a "peace" sign using her hand. "Stay with me on the journey. Help me. Motivate me."
While many social media users congratulated her on her successful workout, some could not help but focus on the "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" actress' seemingly lighter skin tone.
"She really [is] trying to bleach melanin," one user commented under a repost of Dash's first video by the Instagram account 2cool2bl0g. "God bless her."
Another commenter claimed, "I swear to big god I thought this was a [white] woman!!"
"We are all in agreement, right, guys? She's definitely bleaching... No doubt. Right?" a third comment read.
One user jokingly called her an "Ambi cream ambassador," referring to the brand that previously sold products with skin-lightening agents.
Some fans said they "miss" the "old Stacey."
"You disappointed me, Stacey," another wrote. "Bring back '90s Stacey."
A number of users also suggested that Dash looked "high" in her second video and expressed concern over her mental health.
But many others showed their support for Dash amid her fitness journey.
"Despite what people may think, keep doing you. You're a beautiful woman," one Instagram user wrote. "I wish you all the best in your workouts, trust I know how that first day is. Keep moving forward and stay blessed, Ms. Dash."
"You are the best!!!!! Screw these negative comments!!!!! Good luck with getting back [to] the gym, I can't wait to see the results!!!!!" another fan commented.
A third user added, "Girl, the look after a workout! Keep it up, gorgeous lady. It looks good on you."
"You motivated me to work out!! Way to go! Keep pushing, beautiful," a fourth comment read.
This is not the first time Dash has been accused of bleaching her skin.
In 2022, fans also raised questions about the seemingly lighter tone of her skin in a video she posted about the death of DMX the previous year.
"I feel like Stacey Dash just wanted us to see her new skin color," one user wrote on X, formerly Twitter, at the time.
Last year, Dash addressed the speculation that she bleaches her skin in a video she posted on her TikTok and Instagram.
Responding to fans' questions about her skin routine, the actress said her secret is to never expose her skin to harmful UV rays.
"No sun. I don't bleach my skin. I just don't go in the sun," Dash said.
She reiterated in the caption of the video that she does not undergo any skin lightening procedures and that she always uses sunscreen.
Back in 2019, Dash was accused of self-identifying as white when her domestic battery arrest report labeled her race as "white."
Dash was arrested in Florida at the time over an alleged incident with her husband.
But police later clarified that this was a mistake on the part of one of their officers and had nothing to do with Dash.
"Stacey Dash was never asked her race by the arresting deputy, nor did she volunteer any information about her race," a spokesperson for the Pasco Sheriff's Department told TMZ. "The arresting deputy assumed that she was Hispanic."
