Oregon Cancer Patient Wins $1.3 Billion Powerball Jackpot One Week After Completing Chemotherapy
An Oregon man won the powerball jackpot one week after completely treatment for cancer.
Cheng Saephan clinched a staggering $1.3 billion Powerball jackpot, marking a stroke of extraordinary luck just seven days following the completion of his final chemotherapy session.
After an eight-year battle with cancer, the 46-year-old was among the recipients of the $1.3 billion Powerball jackpot drawn earlier this month.
In an interview with NBC News on Monday, Saephan revealed that he and his wife Duanphen will share their newfound wealth with their friend Laiza Chao.
Chao, 55, had contributed $100 towards the purchase of over 20 lottery tickets, forming a tight-knit group in the pursuit of a life-changing windfall. Together, they resolved to claim the prize as a lump sum payment of $422 million after taxes, rather than opting for annual installments.
With two young children to care for, Saephan shared his lottery ritual in the days leading up to the drawing. He meticulously penned down his chosen numbers, keeping the list close at hand even as he slept.
"I need some help. I don't want to die yet unless I have done something for my family first," he prayed.
After his win he shared his joy that he can now "provide for my family and my health."
