Celebrating Princess Charlotte's 9th Birthday: A Look Into The Life Of Kate Middleton And Prince William's Daughter
On May 2, 2024, Princess Charlotte marked her 9th birthday.
Kate Middleton and Prince William's second child and sole daughter, Princess Charlotte, was born on May 2, 2015.
"She has brought immense happiness into our lives," William shared with the BBC following Charlotte's arrival.
"It's very special having a new little girl," Kate shared in the ITV documentary 'Our Queen at Ninety' the following year. "I feel very, very lucky that George has got a little sister. The Queen was really thrilled that it was a little girl, and I think as soon as we came back here to Kensington, she was one of our first visitors here."
Princess Charlotte, presently occupying the third spot in the line of succession to the British throne, has been a globally recognized figure since her birth. Accompanying her parents to numerous royal functions from an early age, she made headlines when she joined them on a notable weeklong visit to Canada at just 16 months old. Furthermore, she has played a prominent role in significant family occasions, such as her grandfather King Charles' coronation ceremony and Queen Elizabeth's state funeral.
Charlotte was born at St. Mary's Hospital in London at 8:34 a.m.weighing 8 lbs., 3 oz. In a modern twist, Kensington Palace announced her birth on social media, while Buckingham Palace followed tradition by displaying the official birth announcement on an easel near the palace gates.
Prince William, 41, brought Prince George to meet his new sister shortly after her birth. Charlotte made her first public appearance later that day when her parents introduced her to the world outside the hospital's Lindo Wing.
Two days following Princess Charlotte's birth, the palace unveiled her full name, "Charlotte Elizabeth Diana," chosen by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The statement highlighted that she would be formally addressed as "Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge."
Her middle names honor her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth and late grandmother Princess Diana, with "Elizabeth" holding particular significance within the royal family. Furthermore, "Charlotte" also pays tribute to her grandfather King Charles.
Princess Kate and Princess Charlotte are renowned for their impeccable style, often seen coordinated in matching outfits. Their fashion journey began at Charlotte's christening, continuing through events like the Trooping the Colour celebration and Easter Sunday service.
Notably, both Kate and Charlotte's attire frequently sells out shortly after they're spotted wearing it, with Charlotte's 6th birthday portrait dress becoming the fastest-selling item in designer Rachel Riley's history within 12 hours of release.

Charlotte reportedly shares a passion for horses with her late great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, who was an avid breeder and horseback rider. Before her death in September 2022, the Queen gifted Charlotte a diamond horseshoe brooch, which the young royal wore to her funeral. Following in the family tradition, all three of William and Kate's children have taken up horseback riding.
