Lionel Richie Says King Charles Is Doing 'Fantastic' As He Returns To Royal Duties: 'He Is Doing Well'
At the debut King's Trust Global Gala in New York City, Lionel Richie gave an update about King Charles' well-being.
On Thursday, Lionel Richie shared reassuring news about King Charles' health amid his cancer treatment. The 'American Idol' judge told PEOPLE the monarch, who recently resumed public appearances after being diagnosed with cancer in February, is "doing well."
"Happily I can say, he is doing fantastic," Richie said.
"Again, I understand, he needs to sit still, you know what I'm saying," the "All Night Long" singer added.
"The most important part is he is doing well. He's back to his duties and so therefore, I wouldn't want the first thing for him to do is come over — let's not prove anything here," the 74-year-old continued.
Richie is a King's Trust Global Ambassador and Chairman of the Global Ambassadors Group.
The Grammy Award winner is confident that once the inaugural event concludes, he'll receive a phone call from King Charles, eager to hear all about the evening's proceedings.
