Mona Patel Rocks 'Winning Look' At 2024 Met Gala With Moving Butterflies In Custom Iris Van Herpen
Mona Patel, an Indian fashion entrepreneur, stole the limelight at the 2024 Met Gala.
Several celebrities dressed their best when they walked the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the annual fashion event on Monday, including Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Kendall Jenner and more. However, one lady turned heads due to her gorgeous outfit, but many were unsure who she was.
The woman looked glamorous and fashionable in her nude sculpted gown with a butterfly-shaped corset and scalloped train. The body-hugging gown featured kinetic butterflies encircling her arms like opera gloves that fluttered their wings in slow motion.
"Apparently, a lot of folks are feasting at the #MetGala and Idc that Idk who she is, but she ate all those who ate. Homegirl devoured. Those butterflies move," one wrote, along with a clip and photo of Patel rocking her outfit.
"I found her name, Googled her, and I'm still not sure who she is LOLOL But that most certainly is a stunning dress, MET gala worthy, unlike most!" another user commented on the tweet.
Someone else added, "This is the winning look for me."
The woman that several netizens raved about was Patel. She was styled by Law Roach and wore a custom iris Van Herpen gown for her Met Gala debut.
She prepared her outfit since March and shared some details about the preparations with Vogue India. According to her, she wanted her dress at the event to reflect her heritage and love for couture.
"I wanted my debut look to be something that celebrates my heritage and also combines my love [for] couture, and when I heard of the theme, Iris Van Herpen seemed like the obvious choice," Patel told the magazine in March.
Patel was born in Vadodara, Gujarat, and moved to the United States at a young age. She pursued higher education at Rutgers University and settled there in 2003 for her entrepreneurial endeavors.
She is now based in the U.S., and she has already built a million-dollar empire. Her brainchild, Couture For Cause, is a nonprofit that combines her passion for fashion and philanthropic pursuits. She has raised huge funds and donations by auctioning unique couture from her personal collection.
Patel was among Forbes Next 1000 honorees in 2021.
