Marlon Wayans Never Got Married So His Mom Won't Be 'Jealous Of A Woman'
Actor-comedian Marlon Wayans has opened up about his late parents in a magazine interview.
On Saturday, the New York Times published an in-depth interview where the "Little Man" star talked about "working through loss -- including the death of his parents -- by finding humor in everything." While talking about how his mother's death in 2020 "broke him," he revealed that she was also "one of five reasons" he never got married.
"My mother's death broke me. It shattered me into a million pieces because that was my girl. I never got married because I never wanted my mother to be jealous of a woman. I never wanted my mother to feel second to any woman," he said.
He added that he told his mom about it while she was on her deathbed.
"That was one of five reasons. And mom was very needy. I told my mother on her deathbed, 'I never got married because I always wanted you to be my No. 1 girl,'" he recalled.
"Those were my last words [to her]. I said, 'Take that to heaven with you.'"
This was not the first time the "White Chicks" star talked about this. In an interview with Essence in August 2021, he also gushed about his mom being his "No. 1 girl."
"I never got married because I knew my mom needed me. Women sometimes want to battle for your attention, they want to battle for your love, they want to be the one," he said at the time.
While Wayans never got married, he had a long-term relationship with Angelica "Angela" Zachary in the past. They share two children, Kai, 23, and Shawn, 22.
In an Instagram post in June 2022, he referred to his children as his "great gifts and accomplishments."
"Of all the things I have achieved, being a loving father will always be my greatest accomplishment," he wrote.
Marlon also has a daughter with his ex Brittany Moreland named Axl, whom they welcomed in 2022. At the time, rumors were claiming that the baby was a "secret" child.
However, the actor quickly shut down the speculations in an interview with The Shade Room, saying, "All love, all GOD. The baby isn't a secret. The mama has been posted. But I chose to keep the baby's private life private. Ain't nobody's business. Social media is toxic and dangerous, and I'd like to keep her peace."
