Meghan Markle's critics slammed her for asking for the microphone during one outing in Nigeria.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex went on a three-day trip to the African country last week. One clip that made the rounds online showed Markle wearing a bright yellow dress with a colorful shawl drape over it. The footage was taken when Prince Harry and Markle were guests of honor at the home of the Governor of Lagos on Sunday.

In the clip, Markle seemingly asked for the mic, and it took several seconds before it was handed to her. Many netizens immediately reacted and poked fun at the former actress.

"Meghan demanding the microphone. She loves the sound of her own voice spouting BS," one netizen wrote on X, formerly Twitter, alongside the clip in question. "Let's be completely honest, if there was a genealogy test done by Meghan Markle, she would be showing that paper everywhere."

"Her DNA is 100% microphone," another user commented.

Someone else added, "I wasn't planning on talking!? [multiple face with tears of joy emoji] But give me the mic."

"She spoke to that poor woman like she had found her on the bottom of her shoe, 'the microphone, the MICROPHONE.' Was she even meant to be speaking" I hope she has that genealogy report to hand with a family tree as backup. She's not 43% Nigerian. She's full of [ox and poop emoji]," a different person opined.

"Give me the microphone. I must have the microphone. I will implode if I don't have the microphone. I was born to hold the microphone. You know I have rights to the microphone. The people will benefit if I have the microphone. If I don't get the microphone: you are all racists," another commenter remarked.

Markle's fans defended her amid the backlash. For them, she did nothing wrong by asking for the mic. Many also praised the former actress' speaking voice.

"Lolol, she didn't demand anything, you desperate clown," one wrote, defending the Duchess of Sussex.

Another fan added, accusing the user who uploaded the clip as racist, "We know your [sic] white because your racism is showing in such a petty way."

"[S]he has a beautiful voice, and she has a lot to share..maybe you can learn a thing or two," a fan commented on TikTok, defending her from the one who said she loved the microphone.

The allegations that Markle loves microphones stemmed from another incident. In September 2023, the Duchess of Sussex had an awkward moment when she took the stage to join Prince Harry for a star-studded fundraiser in Santa Barbara.

The Sussexes were introduced onstage as special guests for Kevin Costner's One805 Live! event at his $26 million polo field. When Markle saw the female host, she walked toward her and seemingly held the microphone, assuming she was expected to give a few words. However, the woman didn't let go of the mic, and Markle realized it was a mishap, the Daily Mail reported.

Another emcee later offered Prince Harry the mic, but the latter seemingly waved it away and gestured to give it to his wife instead. However, the emcee didn't do it.

Prince Harry and Markle wrapped up their three-day Nigeria trip on Sunday.
