Sophie Turner: ‘Thank F**k For Gen Z’ For Being Open-Minded Amid Joe Jonas Divorce
Sophie Turner got candid about her personal life in a new interview.
In a recent in-depth interview with British Vogue, the English actress talked about her divorce from Joe Jonas and said being alive in a time where people are open-minded brought her support. Though she experienced mom-shaming and misogyny due to her situation, she was grateful that a thousand fans came rushing to her defense.
"If something like this had happened to me 10 years ago, I don't think I would have had the same support. I just feel very lucky to be alive in a time when people are open-minded. Thank f**k for Gen Z," she said.
Turner also shared how thankful she was for playing the lead character in "Joan," an upcoming British crime drama TV series, and said the crew and her co-stars carried her through the "tumult."
"They were my emotional support people, my family. I really don't know what I would have done without them," she said.
The "Game of Thrones" star added that playing "Joan" helped her process her emotions amid the divorce.
"I'm not very good at processing my emotions. I lock them away and then they'll bubble up in years to come in some form of depression or anxiety. With this role, I was actually able to process those feelings," she said.
Turner and Jonas' romance started in 2016 when the singer slid into the actress' DMs on Instagram, according to People. Not long after becoming Instagram friends, they met up for the first time and hung out at a bar.
After that, the two were spotted together on different occasions. They confirmed that they were exclusively dating before that year ended.
A year later, they got engaged. In May 2019, the pair tied the knot in Las Vegas and got married again in France in June for an official ceremony and celebration.
In July 2020, they welcomed their first child, Willa. Two years later, they welcomed their second baby, Delphine.
However, after four years of marriage and two children, Jonas filed for divorce from Turner.
Looking back at the time when the "Do Revenge" actress sued her estranged husband for the return of their children to England, she said she thought she would not make it.
"There were some days that I didn't know if I was going to make it. I would call my lawyer saying, 'I can't do this. I just can't.' I was just never strong enough to stand up for myself. And then, finally, after two weeks of me being in a rut, she reminded me that it was my children I was fighting for," she said.
"Once anyone says to me, 'Do it for your kids,' I'm doing it. I wouldn't do it for myself, but I'll find the strength for them."
However, the lawsuit was dismissed after the two reached a custody agreement.
