Sophie Turner Opens Up About Mental Health Challenges Following Joe Jonas Divorce: I Was 'Never Strong Enough'
Sophie Turner is shedding light on the impact of her separation from Joe Jonas on her mental well-being several months after their divorce announcement.
In September 2023, Jonas commenced the formal process to dissolve his marriage of four years to Turner. He cited irreconcilable disparities and declared that "the marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken."
"After four years of wonderful marriage, we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage," the joint announcement said. "There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children."
According to a report from The Blast, individuals familiar with the couple's situation revealed that Jonas, 34, had been separated from the actress for "several months" prior to enlisting the services of a divorce attorney.
The 'Game of Thrones' actress is now speaking out about the aftermath of their separation, calling the divorce some of the "worst days" she has ever faced.
"There were some days that I didn't know if I was going to make it," she shared with British 'Vogue.' "I would call my lawyer saying, 'I can't do this. I just can't.' I was just never strong enough to stand up for myself."
"Once anyone says to me, 'Do it for your kids,' I'm doing it," she proceeded. "I wouldn't do it for myself, but I'll find the strength for them."
Following their divorce, Turner, 28, filed a lawsuit against the singer, alleging that their daughters had been "wrongfully detained" in New York.
"I remember I was on set, I was contracted to be on set for another two weeks, so I couldn't leave. My kids were in the States and I couldn't get to them because I had to finish 'Joan.' And all these articles started coming out," Turner recalled to the outlet. "It hurt because I really do completely torture myself over every move I make as a mother — mum guilt is so real!"
Various articles purported that Turner was a carefree partygoer who lived a life "without a care in the world."
"I just kept having to say to myself, 'None of this is true. You are a good mum and you've never been a partier,' " Turner continued. "I mean, it's unfathomable the amount of people that will just make s**t up and put it up based on a picture."
