Meghan Markle Plans To Share A 'Special Thing' With Archie And Lilibet Following Africa Trip
In an interview with PEOPLE, the Duchess of Sussex disclosed her plans for a meaningful souvenir she's bringing home for her little ones.
Meghan has a clear vision of what she intends to impart to her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, regarding her expedition to Nigeria alongside Prince Harry.
The 42-year-old shared her enthusiasm for exploring her Nigerian heritage and her desire to pass on this newfound understanding to her children and her mother Doria Ragland.
"It had so much personal meaning for me," she said about the couple's journey to Africa.
Mother's Day brought a profound realization as she delved into "my heritage, that I'm able to share with my children. That's such a special thing as a mother to know you can do."
Previously, Meghan discovered through a genealogy test that she has Nigerian ancestry, comprising 43% of her heritage, a revelation that reportedly impacted her as she expressed a sense of belonging in "my country."
She was also happy "to be surrounded by so many incredible mothers in this country and the women that I've met, especially at the leadership conference," alluding to the women's leadership panel she co-facilitated with Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization, during the trip's second day.
"Dr. Ngozi is such a powerhouse and mentor. All the work I've done on women's and girls' rights, as a mom, I really feel that here, and how we were able to expand on that," she said. "It was great."
Harry and Meghan embarked on their trip to Nigeria following an invitation from Nigeria's Chief of Defense Staff, marking their inaugural official international excursion since stepping away from their royal duties in 2020. The whirlwind journey showcased their dedication to mental health initiatives for youth through their Archewell Foundation. The visit also showed support for Nigeria's participation in the Invictus Games, an event championed by Prince Harry, which they joined for the first time the previous year.
