Taye Diggs Slammed For Comparing Himself To A Monkey: ‘He Is Still Traumatized’ From His Last Marriage
Social media is having a field day with actor Taye Diggs after he recorded an Instagram video comparing himself to a monkey.
The 'How Stella Got Her Groove Back' star explained through song the reason why he had to shave his face completely, adding that he "doesn't like what he sees."
The New Jersey native is seen in the online video sitting in what appears to be a bathroom, comedically singing about how he doesn't like looking "like an ape" or "chimpanzee."
"I just had to shave all my facial hair off for this role that I'm playing in a movie," he sang. "I've never seen myself without facial hair for about 89 years. I really don't like what I see. I don't like my upper lip... It makes me feel like a monkey. A monkey, monkey, monkey."
"I don't like to look like a monkey," the 53-year-old belted. "I don't like to look like an ape. I don't like to look like a chimpanzee. I want my facial hair back. Can I have my facial hair back?"
"I thought I was kinda' good looking, but now I want my facial hair back," the video concludes.
"You can get filler and a lip flip for that," one user responded. "Your head looks crazy lol I thought you had a filter lol," another user replied. "He really doesn't like it and that's what makes the video funnier and I feel bad for him," said another.
When The Shade Room re-posted the video, a fan claimed he must be "traumatized" from his last marriage.
"Ex-wife must of told him that is what he looks like when they argued he is still traumatized," one fan said, referring to his ex-wife Idina Menzel, who recently spoke on 'Dinner's on Me' podcast with actor Tyler Ferguson.
"When you're in the theater, it's just not a thing. We all love each other and sleep with each other," Menzel, 52, stated regarding interracial dating in Broadway versus Hollywood.
"But when you leave that cocoon, that bubble, and now in his case [...] he was on the cover of 'Essence' and 'Ebony' and being interviewed by all of these Black journalists, and I think, he had his own stuff to deal with that and it seemed like there was disappointment in the community."
"Anyway, that's stuff that we had to deal with," she detailed. "So it was less about being successful and more about just that kind of stuff, you know?" she told Ferguson regarding their divorce.
The pair were married for 10 years after meeting on the set of the groundbreaking Broadway show in 'Rent' back in 1995. The duo split in 2013, and now amicably co-parent their child, Walker, 14.
