Cassie's Lawyer Slams Diddy's Apology After Assault Video Leaked: 'More About Himself'
Sean "Diddy" Combs issued an apology over the assault video featuring him and his ex-girlfriend, Cassie, that leaked last week, but the latter's camp wasn't satisfied.
Cassie's legal team broke its silence after the producer and rapper uploaded a video on social media in response to the disturbing footage taken in 2016 from a hotel that leaked on Friday. According to Diddy, he was "truly sorry." However, Cassie's camp wasn't convinced by his apology.
"Combs' most recent statement is more about himself than the many people he has hurt," Meredith Firetog, a partner at Wigdor LLP, said in a statement to Us Weekly on Sunday.
"When Cassie and multiple other women came forward, he denied everything and suggested that his victims were looking for a payday. That he was only compelled to 'apologize' once his repeated denials were proven false shows his pathetic desperation, and no one will be swayed by his disingenuous words."
Diddy shared the video apology on Instagram on Sunday. The self-recorded footage was filmed beneath a rattan roof.
"It's so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life. Sometimes you got to do that. I was f---ed up. I mean I hit rock bottom. But I make no excuses. My behavior on that video is inexcusable," he said.
"I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I'm disgusted. I was disgusted then when I did it. I'm disgusted now."
He added that he wasn't asking for forgiveness and was committed to becoming a "better man." Diddy also shared what he was doing to improve himself.
"I went and I sought out professional help. I had to go into therapy and go to rehab. Had to ask God for his mercy and grace. I'm so sorry," he continued. "But I'm committed to be a better man each and every day. I'm not asking for forgiveness. I'm truly sorry."
The Los Angeles District Attorney's Office has already released a statement regarding the "disturbing" video, saying the musician couldn't be charged due to the statute of limitations.
"We are aware of the video that has been circulating online allegedly depicting Sean Combs assaulting a young woman in Los Angeles," the office said in a statement on Friday.
"We find the images extremely disturbing and difficult to watch. If the conduct depicted occurred in 2016, unfortunately, we would be unable to charge as the conduct would have occurred beyond the timeline where a crime of assault can be prosecuted."
