Netizens Think Diddy Already Left Country Amid Viral Cassie Assault Video: 'Very Non-Extraditable'
Sean "Diddy" Combs' latest video has sparked speculation that he may have fled the country as the now-viral video of him assaulting his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura surfaced.
On Sunday, Combs posted a video on Instagram addressing the surveillance footage showing him brutally beating Ventura in a hotel in 2016.
The hip-hop mogul, who previously denied Ventura's allegations of abuse, called his behavior "inexcusable" and said he takes "full responsibility" for his actions in the video.
Beyond his statement, however, what caught the attention of eagle-eyed social media users was the background in his apology video, which had some suggesting that Combs may have left the country.
"That location looking very non-extraditable," one user claimed on X, formerly Twitter, of Combs' new video.
Some suggested that Combs may be in Bali, Indonesia, where Russell Simmons fled to in 2018 after he was accused of rape and sexual misconduct -- allegations he denies.
"He's in Bali with Russel Simmons," one X user claimed.
"He's now Russell's roommate in Bali," another suggested.
Other users suggested different potential locations, including Brazil and Cuba.
"He done fled to Cuba!" one person suggested, while another opined, "He's in Costa Rica somewhere."
But some said that Combs could have recorded the video at his mansion in Miami, Florida.
Sharing an aerial photo of Combs' property, one person pointed out that his Miami residence has "heavy Indonesian influence."
Combs' current whereabouts are unclear, but he posted photos from a family vacation on his Instagram on May 13.
While he faces multiple sexual assault lawsuits, and his homes were raided by federal authorities in March, Combs has not been arrested or charged as of this writing. He previously denied any wrongdoing.
The Bad Boy Records boss faced widespread condemnation online over the weekend after CNN released the footage that appeared to show Combs shoving, kicking, dragging, and throwing something at Ventura in the hallway of a Los Angeles hotel in 2016.
The contents of the video matched an alleged incident Ventura detailed in a now-settled lawsuit she filed against Combs in November 2023.
Despite calls for Combs to be arrested, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office said in a statement that it won't be able to charge the rapper over his actions in the footage.
"If the conduct depicted occurred in 2016, unfortunately we would be unable to charge as the conduct would have occurred beyond the timeline where a crime of assault can be prosecuted," the office of L.A. District Attorney George Gascón wrote Friday.
Two days later, Combs posted the apology video, claiming he was "disgusted" by his behavior in the footage and that he sought professional help after the 2016 incident.
A lawyer for Ventura, however, slammed Combs' apology and called him out for suggesting Ventura and his other accusers were looking for a payday when they filed their lawsuits against him late last year.
In a statement obtained by the New York Post, attorney Meredith Firetog said of Combs, "That he was only compelled to 'apologize' once his repeated denials were proven false shows his pathetic desperation, and no one will be swayed by his disingenuous words."
