R Kelly 'Hogtied' His Ex-Wife Before Sleeping; Used Auto-Lock Doors So She Can't Escape, New Book Claims
R. Kelly's ex-wife Andrea "Drea" Kelly is detailing the alleged abuse she suffered at his hands in her upcoming book, "Under the Red Carpet."
During a recent interview on "The Culture Club Uncensored" podcast, Drea discussed her upcoming memoir, in which she opens up about her horrific experiences during her 13-year marriage to the R&B singer-turned-convicted sex offender.
She was asked on the podcast about one particular story in the tome, in which she claimed Kelly once "hogtied" her in their bedroom and left her bound on the side of the bed as he fell asleep.
Drea confirmed to podcast host Osei the Dark Secret that the details she shared about the alleged incident during a 2018 appearance on "The View" were all true.
She earlier claimed that Kelly "got really angry" with her that night. The artist allegedly threw her on the bed and used the strap of his robe to tie both of her arms behind her and secure her arms to her legs.
Drea told Osei that she couldn't remember how long she was allegedly tied up before she managed to get loose.
Recalling her mindset during the alleged incident, Drea said on the podcast, "I just remember being like, 'Alright, think. Think. Think You are a dancer. You're flexible. What can you do? I know I can get my feet as close to my head as possible.' Like, literally, it felt like a scene out of the movies, where they kidnapped somebody and throw them in the back of the van."
After freeing herself, however, Drea claimed she couldn't leave the bedroom without waking her then-husband up.
According to the choreographer, Kelly allegedly had a door that automatically locked installed for their bedroom. To unlock the door, she had to press a button that made a clicking sound, which then triggered an alarm.
"I'm like, 'There's no time to grab a purse. There's no time to grab shoes. There's no time to do anything.' I got about 10 seconds to get from that third floor down to the first floor to get to the door and out the door," Drea claimed.
She claimed she ran out of the house as fast as she could, but Kelly, who was woken up by the alarm, allegedly chased after her.
She recalled "screaming and hollering" while running "barefoot" down the street as she was allegedly chased by Kelly, who apparently did not care that their neighbors saw them.
Drea claimed she feared for her life at the time.
Kelly allegedly caught her and continued to subject her to abuse until they parted ways.
Drea -- who previously worked as a dancer and choreographer for Kelly -- previously alleged on "The View" that even the temperature of the food or the tone of her voice could make Kelly angry and trigger one of these alleged episodes.
"It could be anything from the milk being too cold or not cold enough for breakfast. It could be anything from 'You knew I told you not to wear that.' It could be if he thought I answered him the wrong way and there was too much 'tone' in my voice," she claimed.
In 2005, Drea -- who shares three children with Kelly -- filed an emergency protective order to keep her then-husband away from her but later rescinded the request.
She filed for divorce from him the following year, and their split was finalized in 2009 after 11 years of marriage.
Kelly is currently serving 31 years in prison for convictions that include racketeering, sex trafficking, child pornography, and enticement of minors for sex.
