Justin Timberlake ‘Retired’ By Fans Following Album And Tour Flop Amid Britney Spears Allegations
Justin Timberlake may have been "retired" by his fans following underwhelming sales for both his album and tour, in addition to shocking allegations against him made by his famous ex-girlfriend.
Timberlake, 43, launched his 'Forget Tomorrow' world tour, but it appears the concerts are far from selling out. Ticket sales have reportedly been lackluster, seemingly leading to the cancellation of his June 8 concert in South Carolina.
Ticketmaster did leave a statement saying, "Unfortunately, the event organizer has had to cancel your event." No further details were disclosed. In nearly every city, the most expensive ticket can be found at under $900.
Music journalist Toure of 'The Grio' suggests that he may have taken too much time off of his music career to resonate with his previous fans. "A six year break from your mid-thirties to your early forties is a really long time [for an artist]," Toure told 'News Nation.'
"Most of [Timberlake's] fans have aged out of caring about him. It's like the old saying goes, 'You don't retire — the audience retires you.' "
The 43-year-old's sixth studio album, 'Everything I Thought It Was,' was released in March. The 18-track album debuted at No. 19 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, followed by dropping off the Hot 200 after just four weeks, per 'News Nation.'
Amid underwhelming album sales, the *NSYNC singer's ex-girlfriend Britney Spears released her memoir 'The Woman in Me' in October 2023, which was riddled with allegations against him.
In Spears' book, she claimed the 'SexyBack' singer cheated on her multiple times, urged her to get an abortion, and alleged that he used their shattering breakup to launch his solo career, which would later spark an explosive backlash on his behalf.
Per 'The Daily Mail,' Spears, 42, stated she was "deeply sorry for some of the things" she wrote in her memoir, and "didn't realize how powerful her words would be."
During a performance in New York City, the Memphis native made it clear he would not return an apology. "I'd like to to take this opportunity to apologize to absolutely f*****g nobody," prompting Spears to delete her apologetic post.
Timberlake has received dozens of awards in the span of his music career including 10 Grammys, 9 Billboards, 11 MTV Music Awards and more. He's also been nominated for Academy Awards, Golden Globes, and SAG awards for his acting.
He has been married to actress Jessica Biel since 2012. The Hollywood duo share two children: Silas, 9, and Phineas, 3.
