Mayor Eric Adams Considers Revoking Diddy's Key To New York City: 'All Of Us Were Deeply Disturbed' By 'Chilling Video'
New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced that his administration is considering withdrawing Sean "Diddy" Combs' key to the city.
This move comes after security footage surfaced showing the music mogul attacking his then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura.
Mayor Adams informed PIX-11 News that he and his team are "taking everything under analysis" and will decide at a later date. Adams had given Combs the key to New York City in September 2023.
"I think all of us were deeply disturbed by watching that chilling video of the young lady being assaulted by him," Adams said with the outlet. "The committee and the team have never rescinded a key before, but we are now sitting down to see what the next steps forward are going to be."
On May 17, CNN shared security footage from 2016 showing Combs, 54, clad only in a white towel, striking and kicking R&B singer Cassie in a hotel hallway in Los Angeles. The video also captures the music producer shoving and dragging Cassie, 37, as well as hurling a vase at her.
Two days following the broadcast of the footage on CNN, Combs publicly confessed to the attack on a video posted to Instagram.
"It's so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life, but sometimes you gotta do that. I was f****d up. I hit rock bottom, but I make no excuses," Diddy said. "My behavior on that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I'm disgusted. I was disgusted then when I did it, and I'm disgusted now."
In November 2023, Ventura initiated legal action in the Federal District Court of Manhattan, accusing Combs of enduring years of physical and sexual abuse throughout their relationship. A settlement between the two parties was reached just one day following Ventura's filing.
On March 25, properties belonging to Combs in Los Angeles and Miami underwent raids by Homeland Security. While no criminal charges have been levied against Combs concerning these raids, Homeland Security Investigations have divulged scant details about the matter. However, according to a federal official cited by the 'New York Times,' the investigation appears to encompass elements of human trafficking.
In September, during the key-giving ceremony, Adams bestowed upon Combs the key to the city, commending the music tycoon for his charitable endeavors within the urban landscape and hailing him as "the embodiment of the New York City attitude."
