Prince William Unlikely To Invite Prince Harry To His Coronation, Royal Expert Claims
Prince Harry might not be around during Prince William's coronation, according to royal experts.
Roya Nikkhah, royal editor for the Sunday Times, and Kate Mansey, journalist assistant editor and royal editor at The Times, discussed Prince Harry and Prince William's relationship in one episode of The Times' "The Royals" podcast. Nikkhah mentioned the Duke of Sussex's possible absence during his big brother's coronation.
"It always gets me thinking if God forbid we would have another coronation soon and long live the King, for you know his health and my own sanity, but if we were to have another coronation in the next few years, would Harry be there?" she asked before answering her own question. "I don't think William would invite him, and I don't think Harry would come, and that's an extraordinary thing. Isn't it?"
Mansey said the royal family's dynamic would change if King Charles were gone. She predicted that the Duke of Sussex's ties with the royal family would be severed without his dad around.
"I think that Harry is still part of the family while his father's still alive. I think when we move on to King William, I think it's a very different picture," Mansey said.
"Obviously, he's still part of the family and that you know, his birthright and all that sort of thing, but in terms of any invitations to Trooping in the Colour [or] any kind of official coronation, I think it will be very difficult for William to invite him to that. I just don't think it's going to happen."
Additionally, Mansey pointed out how the public seemingly accepted that King Charles' two sons were not on speaking terms. To clarify her point, she noted how the people were not talking about whether the Prince of Wales would meet his younger brother when the latter flew to England earlier this month to attend a Thanksgiving service to mark the Invictus Games' 10th anniversary. According to Mansey, the reports revolved around whether King Charles would see Prince Harry.
"It was all about 'Will the King meet Harry?' while he's over there during his visit, and from a journalist's perspective, that's quite interesting because last time, the story was 'William saying he had no plans to meet him.' But now the rift is so deep and so widely accepted that that's not even a story anymore," Mansey explained.
"No one assumed that William and Harry would meet, and I think that's really sad, but it's also the story's moved on, the narratives moved on, and that it's just now ingrained in people's minds they don't talk, there's no way back."
Prince Harry and Prince William's falling-out reportedly started when the latter told the former to slow down with his romance with Meghan Markle while they were still dating. Things got worse when the Sussexes stepped back from their royal duties and moved to California.
The Duke of Sussex took their beef to another level when he dished their disagreements in his interviews, docuseries "Harry and Meghan" and book "Spare." In his memoir, Prince Harry detailed a physical altercation between him and his big brother. He claimed that Prince William grabbed his collar, ripped his necklace and knocked him to the floor at his cottage in London, the BBC reported.
