Kelly Rowland Seemingly Accuses Cannes Security Guard In Viral Video Of Racism And Unfair Treatment
Kelly Rowland is not apologetic after seemingly scolding a security guard at the Cannes Film Festival.
On Tuesday, the former member of Destiny's Child was caught in a viral video pointing her finger at a security guard when she was on the Cannes red carpet. She opened up about the encounter on Thursday and explained that she only "stood [her] ground."
"That woman knows what happened. I know what happened," she told AP News while attending the annual amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Cannes Gala two days after her Cannes appearance. "I have a boundary, and I stand by those boundaries."
She also seemingly accused the staffer of racism and unfair treatment by noting how the other guests, who didn't look like her, were not "pushed off" and "scolded," unlike her.
"There were other women that attended that carpet who did not quite look like me, and they didn't get scolded or pushed off, or told to get off," Rowland continued. "I stood my ground and she felt like she had to stand hers. But I stood my ground."
In the viral video, Rowland was seen taking her time at the steps and waving her hands to the crowd. However, the staffers instructed her to move forward, and they seemingly forced her to climb up the stairs by accompanying her with their hands, directing her where to go. One person who had a heated confrontation with Kelly could be seen stretching one arm behind the singer-actress' back.
Jacqui Press, a lip reader spoke with Mail Online and shared what Rowland reportedly said to the security guard. According to her, after the guard appeared to step on Rowland's dress, the former apologized and the latter said, "It's ok."
However, the lady guard seemingly said something else that prompted Rowland to change her mood.
"Don't talk to me like that," Rowland said while pointing a finger at the guard.
The lady guard continued to usher her up the stairs, but the "Mea Culpa" star turned around and pointed her finger at her and said, "Don't talk to me like that," repeatedly.
A male security guard came down and asked what was happening and Rowland continued walking the steps before turning once again to the lady guard and telling her, "You still don't talk to me like that!"
Several netizens reacted to the encounter, and they felt that Rowland was being disrespected because other celebrities like Heidi Klum were left alone while on the steps for a photoshoot.
"The difference is striking in how 'some' are rushed off the steps with arms in her face and stepping on her dress and some, they will wait patiently for," said Nikki Fowler, award-winning founder and publisher of Glitter Magazine, on X, formerly Twitter.
