WNBA Fans Slam Angel Reese For Shading Caitlin Clark In Now-Deleted Post
Shortly after dominating the 2023 WNBA runners-up, New York Liberty, in their game Thursday, Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese seemingly shaded another league freshman, Caitlin Clark.
In a now-deleted post on X (formerly Twitter), Reese boasted about "getting a win in a packed arena" where fans went to support and watch the whole team, not just one single player.
"And that's on getting a WIN in a packed area not just cause of one player on our charter flight," the 2024 7th overall pick posted.
The tweet seemed to be indirectly aimed at Clark who has been the talk of the women's basketball sphere since breaking record after record eversince her junior year with the Iowa Hawkeyes.
The first overall pick by the Indiana Fever, Clark's rookie season has been much-awaited and the hot topic among fans and haters alike.
Clark has been a key factor in the recent rise in women's basketball popularity.
Her first-ever professional game, one against Connecticut Sun, was the most-watched WNBA game in ESPN history. It had a total of 2.1 million viewers.
Basketball fans are eager to see if the 22-year-old can bring the same stellar performance she had in the NCAA to the pros.
Reese's cryptic post wasn't received well by some fans who think she's unnecessarily stirring up trouble with the two-time Naismith College Player of the Year.
"Why is she so obsessed with Clark? I haven't seen Clark bring up Reese once," one user commented.
"Caitlyn [sic] showed nun but respect to Reese and she still acting up?" wrote another X user.
Another added, "She should thank Caitlin every night."
"She does realize no one would watch if it wasn't for Clark right," quipped another.
Other fans defended the 2023 NCAA champion, saying Reese is just telling the truth.
"She said wtf she said!" one commenter wrote on The YBF's post.
"Angel gone be a [goat emoji]," another wrote.
Some netizens also believe the rivalry is only good for the sport.
Amid the fanfare, the Fever have yet to score their first win after dropping another close one against the Seattle Storm on Thursday, 85-83.
Despite the winless record, Clark continues to post impressive numbers for a rookie, averaging 17.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 1 block in the five outings.
Reese, on the other hand, has been posting 13 points and 9 rebounds per outing. The Sky currently have a 2-1 record.
