Sean Kingston Arrested For Theft And Fraud After Declaring 'My Lawyers Are Handling Everything'
Sean Kingston was taken into custody in California on allegations of fraud and theft.
The arrest followed a SWAT operation at his mansion in South Florida and the subsequent arrest of his mother.
The Broward County Sheriff's Office reported that Kingston was apprehended without any issues in San Bernardino County, California, on Thursday based on a Florida warrant.
His arrest occurred just a few hours after Broward detectives detained his mother, Janice Turner, during a raid on Kingston's upscale home in a luxurious Fort Lauderdale neighborhood. She was also arrested on charges of fraud and theft.
Robert Rosenblatt, Kingston's attorney, informed NBC News, "We were in the process of having him return to Florida after his show. We want him back asap so we can show this is merely a civil case and not criminal. We look forward to challenging this case in court."
Before his arrest, Kingston, real name Kisean Paul Anderson, defended himself against news reports on his Instagram Story. "People love negative energy! I am good, and so is my mother! ... My lawyers are handling everything as we speak," he wrote.
NBC-6 reported that the raids were linked to a lawsuit against the Jamaican-American singer for allegedly failing to pay for luxury items, including a TV, watches, and a custom-made bed. Kingston's mother has previously faced legal troubles related to fraudulent loan applications and bank fraud.
The 34-year-old, who rose to fame with his 2007 chart-topping single "Beautiful Girls" and his duet with Justin Bieber on "Eenie Meenie," has not released any music through a major label in over 10 years.
Attorney Dennis Card, who represents a plaintiff reportedly suing Kingston for the unpaid items, told the outlet that Kingston employs "basically a script, he says that he works with Justin Bieber, and obviously puts on a big show here, this is a rental house, he doesn't own it, and he lures people using his celebrity into having them release things without him paying for it and then he simply never pays."
Kingston will remain in custody in San Bernardino until he can be extradited to Florida.
